The makers of Overwatch 2 have revealed who the new hero of Season 2 will be. Ramattra is the leader of the terror organization Null Sector, which you have encountered before. For the first time, you are really on the “evil side”.
Who is the hero? Ramattra is an Omnic and a good friend of the peaceful monk Zenyatta. He will be available as the new tank hero in Overwatch 2 after Sojourn, Kiriko, and Junker Queen, as soon as Season 2 starts.
The new tank hero is set to be released on December 6th.
Ramattra is also the leader of Null Sector, the terror organization against which you fight in the event “Uprising” (engl.: “Uprising”). Null Sector is an association of Omnics fighting for more rights using very drastic methods and is responsible for many deaths, especially in London. It was referred to as a terrorist organization in the animated short film “Rise and Shine” featuring Mei.
During the finals of the Overwatch League, a short teaser was released showcasing Ramattra’s background story. Originally, many fans suspected the stocky Mauga as the new tank hero since 2019.
Before the teaser, we from MeinMMO were able to attend a reveal event for Ramattra. The developers from Blizzard answered some questions about the new hero.

“Ramattra will be the greatest threat on the battlefield”
What makes Ramattra special: The biggest feature of Ramattra is that he will have two forms: his normal Omnic form and his “Nemesis form”. Similar to Bastion, he can regularly transform for a short period.
As Nemesis, he is supposed to become the literally greatest threat in the game by growing enormously in size. How exactly that will look, we don’t know yet, but there have already been some details about Ramattra’s abilities:
- as Omnic, he is supposed to “poke” at a distance, meaning bothering enemies and at the same time protecting his team with a barrier
- as Nemesis, Ramattra is supposed to charge into enemies and deliver heavy blows to break through to the backline
- overall, Ramattra is supposed to have more abilities than most heroes
- the role is expected to be similar to that of Winston or D.Va as “Dive Tank”
The idea behind Ramattra is that enemies should truly fear him when they see he will soon become the Nemesis. You can counter him like all “big” enemies, for example, with Bastion, Ana’s sleep arrows, or Zenyatta’s damage debuff.
What is still pending is the unlocking of Ramattra. The new hero Kiriko was available for Free2Play players only at level 55 of the Battle Pass for Season 1. Whether Ramattra will also require so much grind is currently still under discussion according to the devs.
The new map in Season 2 is also supposed to have something to do with Ramattra – but no information has been provided yet. The developers also promised more heroes in the near future, especially support heroes, where the selection is currently quite limited. More information about Ramattra and other features is expected to be announced soon.
