The cute cyberpunk adventure lets players take on the role of a cat and explore a dystopian city full of androids. Since its release for PC and PlayStation, the game has received overwhelmingly positive reviews of 97% on Steam. But not only do humans love Stray, dogs and cats are crazy about it too.
What kind of game is this?
- In Stray (English: Stray) you play as a cat (do you need to know more?)
- Together with the drone B-12, you explore an abandoned cyberpunk city and search for your family and a way home
- The city is full of androids and dangerous creatures
- Experience the dystopia from a cat’s perspective: playfully interact with the environment, climb everywhere, and curl up against droid legs
- There is a dedicated meow button!
Stray was developed by the French dev team BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive. Check out the official launch trailer for the release on July 19, 2022, here.
Stray even impresses cats
Deceptively real: Since its launch on July 19, 2022, Stray has captivated players to their screens – and their pets alongside them. Numerous users shared their four-legged friends’ reactions on Twitter.
Especially cats are thrilled. They seem to recognize a fellow creature in the orange-striped 3D cat on the screens. Accordingly, they are also captivated by what is happening, as this footage shows:
Especially clever house tigers quickly realize that they are only facing a flat screen. But maybe the new playmate is hiding behind it?
Dog owners must play secretly
Will the neighbors complain? Not all animal roommates are friendly towards the alleged intruder in their territory. Some dogs simply bark loudly at the screen:
Other dogs are more proactive and charge straight at the screen. According to this Twitter user, the TV fortunately survived the attack. However, she will probably forego the shared play sessions in the future.
It speaks for the dedication and skills of the development studio to have created such a convincing game. Perhaps our pets will one day be able to accompany us into the digital worlds.

Stray is on its way to becoming an indie sensation. Other games are not doing so well. BioWare wanted to build on the success of Destiny in 2019 with Anthem. Now the shooter is being sold for 1 cent.
