Funcom, the developers of The Secret World, have planned another game in this universe. Moons of Madness is set on Mars and will incorporate elements from The Secret World.
What is Moons of Madness? The new game from Funcom and Rock Pocket Games is a “sci-fi horror game with Lovecraftian elements.” This is already a reference to the Lovecraft book “At the Mountains of Madness,” which revolves around the horror during an Arctic expedition.
In the game, however, the red planet Mars is the scene of horror. Perhaps the moons that give the game its name will also appear, appropriately named Phobos and Deimos (Fear and Terror).
Not an MMO, but a lot of Secret World
What does Moons of Madness have to do with Secret World? Moons of Madness is a horror game and not an MMO. In the game, you take on the role of technician Shane Newman at the Mars research station Invictus. The twist: The station belongs to the mysterious Orochi group.
This nasty megacorp was already involved in the MMORPG The Secret World in all sorts of dark dealings. Additionally, there will be more lore and background information from Secret World, so players of the horror and mystery MMORPG will feel right at home here. However, playing Moons of Madness does not require prior knowledge of Secret World.
This is what it’s about in Moons of Madness: Poor Shane won’t just have a cozy daily routine at Invictus. Strange things are happening at the station. Strange green mist is billowing in the greenhouse, systems are going haywire, and in the end, Shane’s team disappears during an external assignment.
Additionally, even stranger things that Shane believes he sees and hears arise. So, those who appreciate the narrative style of Secret World and H.P. Lovecraft should find plenty to enjoy here.
When is Moons of Madness coming out? The game will be released on Halloween 2019. According to Funcom, the supported platforms are PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
More stories about Secret World are also available as a book.
