Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One) is about to launch into the next eSports tournament. After the initially mixed Summer Skirmish, Epic wants to get it right from the start in the Fall Skirmish. The game itself currently offers ideal conditions.
What do we know about the Fall Skirmish? The eSports tournament Fall Skirmish will be shorter than the previous tournament. Instead of 8 weeks, it will last only 6 weeks.
In return, there is more money. In the summer, there were “only” 8 million US dollars. The tournament in autumn, however, is set to offer 10 million dollars.
Tournament not just for professionals
How can you participate? Epic will announce more details about the tournament soon. However, it is highly likely that they will continue to rely on a mix of established eSports professionals and amateurs from the community.
In the summer, you could register for the tournament if you performed particularly well in the regularly held leaderboard showdown events. This resulted in the Summer Skirmish some previously unknown players being awarded massive prize money.
If Epic uses this mode again, the first qualification matches should start soon at the start of Season 6 at the end of September.
Even more money for winners: Players were already able to win enormous prizes of up to 250,000 US dollars in the Summer Skirmish. Since Epic is offering 2 million dollars more in prize money but reducing the playtime by 2 weeks for the next tournament, the individual winner prizes are likely to be even heftier. So better get training.
Meta-game currently ideal for tournaments
That’s why the autumn tournament is likely to be really good: The Summer Skirmish started extremely poorly and the first round even had to be ended prematurely. After that, it gradually improved, and in the end, Epic achieved a good overall result.
With the Fall Skirmish, Epic could, however, deliver good games right from the start. The current meta gameplay favors fast, active, and aggressive tactics. Especially the new grappler makes fortifications only conditionally useful.
The new rules for the storm in the final phase also allow buildings to collapse quickly. This conserves server resources and brings more pace to the game: ideal for exciting eSports tournaments that are watched by many fans.
