With the new DLC “Black Armory” came a new raid and thus a new final boss to Destiny 2. The encounter shows how much raid battles have developed in 4 years of Destiny.
Spoiler Warning: The article is about the final boss of the current raid “Scourge of the Past”. Those who belong to the few percent of Guardians who are determined to experience the raid themselves and don’t want to spoil the excitement should not continue reading.
This is the final boss of Destiny: The final boss has the striking name “Insurrection Prime, Kell’s Scourge”. He is a towering robot. The boss has been around since the raid opened on Friday night and was defeated relatively quickly.
“Insurrection Prime” is something like a giant mech. The site Gamesradar refers to the final boss as Optimus Prime or Metal Gear.
The special thing about the boss fight is that it takes place in different phases:
- In the first encounter, you don’t fight the boss itself, but a horde of adds on multiple levels. You have to earn the honor to face Insurrection Prime.
- In the second phase, this giant robot appears. It flies around with jets.
The Guardians must fulfill complicated mechanics to even deal permanent damage to him, have to jump into tanks, and ultimately defeat him by breaking his “Weak Spots,” which vary depending on what weapon Insurrection Prime uses.
The raid guides for the encounter (such as by Datto via YouTube) last about 15 minutes and are filled with graphics and diagrams.
From Boss Battle to Boss Encounter
This is the exciting part: It is an impressive boss fight that shows how far the raid and boss fight design of Destiny has come since the days when you could simply push Atheon off the platform or eliminate him in seconds with Gjallarhorns.
Back then, raids were still “new territory” for Destiny and most bosses were classic matters with only relatively few, simple mechanics. Like in the MMORPG World of Warcraft, boss encounters seem to become more sophisticated as playtime increases.
Although Atheon already had some features with the transition to other dimensions in September 2014 and required a split of the team, he wasn’t as complex as “Insurrection Prime”.

Will Insurrection Prime also be defeated quickly? It is known that Destiny 2’s raid leader, Joe Blackburn, actually wants encounters to be designed in such a way that they take a long time at the beginning, but can be completed faster with increasing experience.
Past bosses became so easy that they died under the most absurd conditions.
It will be interesting to see if groups succeed this time again in completing a boss encounter with just a few games or in record time. In November 2014, Atheon was defeated in 11 seconds.
The boss “Crota” later had the honor of dying under the most absurd conditions. Thus, Crota was defeated in Destiny with a drum set and by a player using a dance mat as a controller.
How do the mechanics work? We will create a guide for the raid “Scourge of the Past” in the coming days, where we will take a closer look at the mechanics and explain how to defeat the boss:
Here is the guide to the first part of the raid.
