In The Division 2, a major change is coming with the Warlords expansion. A developer made it clear on Twitter: Little of the current gear will be usable at level 40.
What is it about? The big loot shooter The Division 2 is bringing a huge expansion with “Warlords of New York” soon and overhauls its entire gear system. Get some details about the transition here and find out what from your current gear will still be useful at the new max level 40.
“Warlords of New York” introduces Gear 2.0 with a ton of changes
The full details of the transition are not yet completely clear, and one of the developers explained through a few tweets how much the gear is changing with the new system:
- The current gear will not bring anything in the expansion
- 2-tier attribute library
- Only some current mods might hold up at level 40
The tweets came all from Division 2 weapon expert Fredrik Thylander. Let’s take a look at some of his statements and see what they imply.
The current gear will be useless in New York
This is the tweet about the current gear: A user asked Thylander directly if current god rolls of attributes would still be usable for the new expansion.
The answer: “Your current gear is not useful in the new expansion, except for the first few levels. Currently, all gear is at level 30. The expansion goes up to level 40. It’s about as useful as level 20 gear when you’re playing level 30 content.”
So everything is reset to 0? Yes, kind of. The quality of the current attribute values will no longer matter in the Warlords expansion. So once we start the campaign in New York and progress from level 30 to 40, we will also need entirely new gear.
There will be 2 separate attribute libraries
This is the tweet about the libraries: A user asked if the attributes in the library are related to the agent’s level. He also wanted to know if level 30 attributes could keep up with the higher levels, but we already clarified that a paragraph earlier.
The answer from the Division weapon expert: “The recalibration library is divided into 2 sections. 1 – 30 (including World Tier 5) and 31 – 40.”
How does that work then? In the different libraries, you can only save values where the corresponding item is at the correct level. So if you have a heavy value on a level 30 knee pads, gear score 515, you cannot load that value into the second library. The equipment piece would need to be at least level 31.
Some mods might still be useful at level 40
This is the tweet about the mods: Here a user asked if he could throw away all his mods since they all have worse values than the new stuff.
This is what the developer said: “You will find slightly better mods at level 40. I think it could be worth keeping a few of them. However, the changes regarding WHAT is ON the mods with TU8 are so drastic that it’s better to wait for an assessment until after the patch.”
So should we keep the good mods for now? We should temporarily set aside the good mods and reassess after TU8. Because the mods are being changed so significantly, Thylander himself can hardly estimate what will still be good. However, there is a chance that you already have a value gem in your inventory.
While there are still reasons to play Episode 3 now, we probably don’t need to go hunting for good values for the Warlords adventure in New York anymore.
Do you still have questions about the new gear system? Is there anything unclear for you?
