Destiny 2 has announced its new episode: Heresy in the livestream. You can expect a sentimental journey of nostalgia, cool weapons, and the conclusion of the episodes.
What are the key updates from the stream? On January 28, 2025, Bungie held the first stream for the episode: Heresy. This will continue and then conclude the last chapter of the Echoes. In addition to the theme, content was also presented. Here are the most important details:
- Return to the Dreadnaught in the form of a seasonal activity
- Oryx returns (whether as an enemy or NPC is unclear)
- New armor sets for Trials of Osiris, seasonal, and more
- A new weapon set for the season
- Weapon blueprints for weapons from the “Vault of Glass” raid are expected to appear
- Two new exotic weapons
- The SMG “Barrow-Dyad”
- The fusion rifle “Lodestar”
- A new Arc aspect for Warlock and Titan, as well as a Void aspect for the Hunter
- Fans will be able to wield the power of the Taken for the season to win battles
- Collaboration with Star Wars and Destiny 2
Especially the return of the Dreadnaught and of Oryx could interest a large part of the community.
Destiny 1: The Taken King was one of the most popular DLCs in the entire Destiny history and veterans spent hours on patrol there to complete quests and enjoy the atmosphere. However, on February 4, the new episode will officially be released.
The Dreadnaught and an old enemy returns
What can you expect on the Dreadnaught? The Dreadnaught has changed after all these years in orbit around Saturn. Since the ship is organic, it is slowly falling apart like a ruin. However, you need to return there for the story, as one of the Taken has managed to grab the last Echo of the Traveler and is plotting something evil.
Bungie is not bringing back the patrol zone to let you complete quests. Instead, you will gain access to the Dreadnaught through the new seasonal activity “The Nether”. This will allow you to travel through new and old areas of the ship to sabotage the Taken.
Oryx is also expected to return in some form – how exactly is still unclear. It is possible that the Echo was able to bring back his soul. What role Oryx plays in the story is also questionable, but we assume that the Hive God will be an NPC. His revival goes against the sword logic of the Hive, so Oryx likely won’t be pleased about it.
Bungie has also changed how you can experience the story. You will not need to travel back to the H.E.L.M.’s holo-projector to experience the story dialogues. The developers have worked to provide an immersive storytelling experience.
Fans will likely receive messages from Sloane, Eris, or the Vagabond via holograms that the Ghost can project during a mission.
Cool weapons and exotics
What weapons will there be? As for weapons, fans have plenty to grind for. A new set suitable for the seasonal theme is expected with new perks. Unfortunately, these cannot be crafted. There will also be two exotics.
The following are known:

- Adamantite (Legendary)
- Strange auto rifle with support frame to heal allies
- Psychopomp (Legendary)
- An Arc grenade launcher that can leave electrical puddles
- Barrow-Dyad (Exotic)
- Strange SMG that regenerates ammo on its own and produces decay
- Lodestar (Exotic)
- Arc fusion rifle with primary ammo and a secondary fire mode that can deal a lot of damage and scare enemies. Fires like a pulse rifle.
Additionally, there are expected to be weapons to craft, especially the guns from the “Vault of Glass” raid. If you are still missing a god roll, you can farm quite a bit here.
All new weapons stand out, and not just because of their appearance. Bungie has designed the weapons to be powerful and offer strong build options for fans to experiment with. It remains to be seen what ideas the community will come up with.
Expect that Bungie will release more weapons from the new set with each act release of the episode. A machine gun was also spotted that does not seem to be releasing with Heresy.
The end of the episodes
Lastly, this is the final episode. Afterwards, the project “Frontiers” will be launched, which is supposed to turn everything upside down. In Frontiers, Destiny 2 will experiment with new themes, the freedom to choose how you want to experience the story, the start of a new narrative away from light and dark, and possibly new destinations to explore.
So far, Bungie has revealed few details about Frontiers, but as we progress through the year 2025, Bungie will break its silence and share more, so stay tuned.
