With the new dungeon “The Caves”, players can explore Fallout 76 underground. However, the dungeon has not been well received so far. Many players find it far from successful. But there are also positives.
What kind of dungeon is this? With the latest update, the dungeon “The Caves” appeared in Fallout 76 under Harpers Ferry. Players can complete a quest here and face new dangers to supply themselves with loot.
The dungeon was supposed to be a challenge for two max-level players or particularly well-equipped players. The extent of the dungeon’s story sounded as if there was a kind of small city waiting down there.
This is the problem with the dungeon: However, both the extent and the difficulty of the dungeon disappoint players greatly. Many players report that the dungeon is too easy:
- reddit users report that they can complete the caves alone even with rather mediocre equipment
- for this they only need about ten minutes per run, even if they take their time
- the quest is too short and rather boring, consisting of too few steps
Additionally, as noted in a different reddit post, the instancing is missing. The dungeon is not closed off to any player or group, but simply freely accessible. Every player can participate down there.
Fans generally miss the “dungeon feeling”. The enemies offer no challenges and no mechanics, as the new Sheepsquatch fight already suggests.
This divides the community: Most players see it as Bethesda’s fault. The Caves were supposed to be a great dungeon, but it was ruined and thus hardly can excite.
Other reddit users are more critical towards the players themselves. Some points are criticized by the fans:
- One should not “hype” themselves for something they do not know. This breeds disappointment.
- Those who are already “too strong” and use “OP builds” should not expect challenges.
- The fans have a poor understanding of too easy (The Caves) and too hard (Sheepsquatch).
Most players, however, agree that much of the promotion for the new dungeon was not justified.
This is still good: Despite the negative feedback about the dungeon, many players are still satisfied with the new content. They point out that it’s not just about the dungeon and its loot.
A reddit user emphasizes that Harpers Ferry now serves as a perfect spot for a nuclear strike. One can irradiate the place itself and the entire caves, thus farm optimally, even better than in the previously popular Whitesprings.
Other users, who care less about power gaming, are simply satisfied to have a new place to explore. Those who have been playing Fallout 76 for a while have likely seen many quirky places. The Caves are simply something new.
How well do you know Appalachia?
