In the open beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, various modes are available for players to test. One of these modes actually doesn’t fit the classic CoD at all, but it is well received.
What kind of mode is this? Ground War is something like a large version of what you usually know from CoD. 32 players per team compete against each other on massive maps – a total of 64 players.
The objective is a classic domination win with various points to capture. There are even vehicles, flying crafts, and tanks with which you can move across the map.
Ground War was already a new mode in Modern Warfare 2019 and at that time it seemed like the approach to bring the long-standing competitor of the CoD franchise, Battlefield, into the game. Now, in the new Modern Warfare 2, there are some improvements to the known mode.
What is different from before? For example, it is possible to “spot” opponents and vehicles, as was already the case in Battlefield. Additionally, helicopters are now actual objects that can be boarded. The maps themselves are larger and more accessible.
In addition, there are the general changes that Modern Warfare 2 brings, such as the absence of slide cancelling.
All in all, this ensures that Ground War is currently well received by players who are testing the mode in the currently ongoing beta.

“Like an old Battlefield without destruction”
This is what players say about the new Ground War: In a thread on reddit, numerous fans discuss the advantages of the new Ground War. Comparisons are made with Battlefield. With the meme: “Look at me, I’m the Battlefield now,” the EA shooter is even stripped of its rank.
The opinion on Ground War is mostly positive. There are comments like: “Feels like an old Battlefield without destruction. I really like it!” (via reddit). However, there is also criticism that Ground War is not necessarily better than Battlefield in general.
Many players still have the catastrophic launch of the latest Battlefield 2042 on their minds. One user explains in response to the comment that Battlefield is still better:
[Battlefield] was much better, but since 2042 I prefer Ground War in Modern Warfare 2. I mean, Battlefield V and all predecessors were better than both. But 2042 was such a low blow that Ground War feels like balm.

The developers of Battlefield are meanwhile working hard to make Battlefield 2042 the game that fans wanted. Continuous efforts are being made, and since Season 2, players say it has even been really good again.
However, the community also believes that a little competition for Call of Duty is healthy, so that the games in their area of the shooter genre don’t get too comfortable. However, the head of EA, the publisher of the Battlefield series, apparently sees it differently:
