The online game War Thunder will soon expand with tactical naval battles. The addon “Knights of the Sea” will enter closed beta later this year.
After air battles with fighter planes and land battles with tanks, fans of War Thunder have been requesting naval battles for some time. And this will soon be possible for fans, as work is currently underway on the addon “Knights of the Sea,” which introduces naval forces.
The War at Sea

In this, you will use fast and torpedo boats, artillery and missile carriers, as well as ships from various coast guards and even U-boat hunters. You will be able to utilize this “small naval contingent” across all maritime battlefields of World War II scenarios to unite land, sea, and air battles.
“The high degree of realism is one of the outstanding core competencies of War Thunder. All presented vehicles should correspond as closely as possible to their real counterparts. The battles fought by large ships during World War II were a competition of planning and patience; some battles could last several hours, others several days. In War Thunder, where all types of vehicles meet in a large battle and players can control aircraft, ground vehicles, and ships, it is not possible to scale down or speed up ships, as this would make the overall experience inconsistent.
Our internal tests have shown that battles with large battleships would either be too slow and thus boring, or that one would have to make too many compromises, rendering the ships completely unrealistic. For this reason, we have focused initially on fast, attack-focused small ships that are rarely found in other games. These ships fit much better with the core ideas of our game, as these fast, maneuverable, and dangerous “knights of the sea” also serve as worthy opponents for aircraft and ground vehicles,” said Kirill Yudintsev, Creative Director of Gaijin Entertainment.
Starter Packs with Exclusive Ships
To test the naval forces, you can choose one of two starter packs with unique ships. The first pack includes the Soviet Project 1124, which is an armored inland ship equipped with the turret of the legendary T-34 and two 12.7mm machine guns. In the rear, there is also a “Katyusha” M-13-M1 rocket launcher. The second starter pack offers the famous American torpedo boat PT-109, where the later US president John F. Kennedy was stationed. It is a fast, maneuverable torpedo boat capable of launching four torpedoes. The packs can be purchased on the official website.
