Sworn is an upcoming game on Steam that could shorten the wait for Hades 2. However, those who want to test it need to hurry.
What kind of game is this? Sworn is an upcoming co-op roguelite developed by Windwalk Games. The game is being worked on by veterans from Riot, Niantic, and Blizzard.
In terms of gameplay, Sworn is heavily inspired by the indie darling Hades. Its successor Hades 2 has been the most wanted game on Steam for some time now. However, instead of the gods of Olympus, here you encounter figures from the myths surrounding King Arthur, who grant you new abilities.
However, Sworn differs in that you can play in co-op with up to 3 friends.
How does Sworn work? The runs in Sworn follow the proven formula: You enter a room and must face numerous enemies there. Once you have cleared them all, various doors open. Based on the symbols, you can tell what lies behind them.
After a few rooms, you have to defeat a miniboss. In between, you receive new abilities that you only have for the duration of the run, upgrades, or one of the 4 currencies:
- With gold, you can buy temporary upgrades during the run; it disappears upon your death.
- With the remaining currencies, you can unlock permanent upgrades after completing your runs that allow you to delve deeper into the dungeons
Over time, you can unlock 4 different classes, each with 4 different weapons and spells available. This allows you to build a nimble melee fighter, a protective tank, or a cautious ranged fighter.
In the skill tree, you can gain more health, attack damage, or movement speed, as well as unlock various bonuses.
How can you play Sworn? The game is currently still in pre-alpha. However, a free playtest is currently running on Steam, which already includes 2 mini-bosses and a nasty final boss.
Those who want to participate should hurry; the playtest only runs until March 31, 2024.
