Star Citizen – It grows, it grows
This is what people thought in 2018: People thought that 2018 would be the year when the incredibly ambitious Star Citizen would retreat and diligently work on the many features promised to fans.
Four major updates were supposed to come, which CIG wanted to distribute throughout the year. They were meant to improve and expand the alpha. No major additional highlights were planned for 2018.
This is what actually happened in 2018: Exactly what the developers had planned happened. It was a year for Star Citizen without much hassle, high-profile scandals, broken promises, or crazy new features.
The biggest dissatisfaction arose around CitizenCon when Chris Roberts wanted money from viewers for a livestream. However, Roberts ultimately yielded to the furious protests.
The highlight of the year was then in fact the presentation at CitizenCon: Spectacular videos impressed many.
In addition, there was another large cash injection for Star Citizen and CIG set up a roadmap for the single player part, Squadron 42, which seems realistic, refraining from making further major promises or appearances.
Squadron 42 is expected to enter beta in summer 2020.
The money from backers continues to flow without new features through sales. However, expenses are also enormous.
Conclusion: It was a solid year for Star Citizen all around:
- Alpha 3.3 significantly improved performance
- the features that came across as thought out and solid.
The goal of what Star Citizen is supposed to be is still far away, but significant steps were made in that direction in 2018.
It is also reassuring that there were no big promises in 2018 that had to be retracted by the end of the year.
