Crowfall – It has to come eventually
This is what people thought at the beginning of 2018: We thought Crowfall would be one of the two MMORPGs that would really debut in the west in 2018 alongside Bless.
The time was definitely ripe. The MMORPG was in “Pre-Alpha 5” and was supposed to start an open beta as early as 2018.
This is what really happened in 2018: Crowfall also suffers from the “Indie MMORPG” syndrome. The roadmap is always way too optimistic and is then consistently pushed back.
However, whereas Chronicles of Elyria apparently suffers from too little money, Crowfall says it has suddenly made more than expected.
Crowfall presented itself in June 2018 as having made more money than planned through the sale of a technology. Therefore, they would be investing even more money into the development of Crowfall and would need even more time: The Star Citizen situation.
The developers have made it clear that they only have one chance at release and thus want to hit it optimally to excite many. Therefore, everything that was planned for 2018 has been postponed to 2019.
Crowfall is not in a hurry with its release and is taking all the time in the world.
In fact, the first campaigns for Crowfall actually started at the end of 2018, showing that the game is taking shape and is slowly becoming tangible.
Conclusion: Crowfall also fell far behind its own schedule in 2018, but seems to have no problem with that. The development here feels solid.
However, after two consecutive years of looking as if Crowfall should really get going, the game is in a strange situation. It feels as though it has already had several false starts, even though it has not even crouched down to sprint yet.
Ultimately, Crowfall is one of the winners of 2018, even if only a few noticed.
