Anthem – The “This is not a delay” delay
This is what people thought at the beginning of 2018: At E3 2017, BioWare introduced the online shooter Anthem and announced a release for fall 2018.
The impression was given in 2017 that the game would start its marketing campaign in 2018 with alphas, betas, and then enter the September 2018 battle for the gaming market against so many other heavyweights.
At the beginning of the year, the mood towards Anthem was already interested but also skeptical. Even then, hardly anyone believed that Anthem would actually be released in 2018. There was too little known about the game and an insider report from Kotaku fueled further doubts.
This is how it actually went: EA already delayed the release in January 2018 to February 2019. However, EA stated that it was not a delay, but rather everything was going according to plan.
In 2018, BioWare then used this opportunity to provide more information about Anthem. We now know a lot about the loot system, the classes, the gameplay, and how BioWare wants to tell the story of Anthem in a multiplayer game.
An initial alpha also took place, but it remained strictly under NDA.
Conclusion: Anthem showed a lot in 2018, revealed a lot, and is now in a good position to make a strong debut in February 2019.
Demos will come in January and February 2019, surely more information and ultimately the release, which will occur in phases.
Those who want can already get a good picture of the online shooter. There is a lot of information circulating, even if it is dribbled out over Twitter.
Aside from the strange delay early in 2018, the year went well for Anthem. Ultimately, only a few questions remain – the most important revolve around whether Anthem will be able to retain players in the long term. We will only find out after the release.
