Ulgu, the Grey Wind
Ulgu lays like a thick fog over the land, like a wall of impenetrable grey. The wind is often accompanied by natural fog, although it is unclear whether it creates the fog or is merely drawn to it. It is certainly true that it causes confusion for those who find themselves within it.
Wherever darkness reigns, Ulgu can be found, but also in places full of secrets and lies. Those who can see this wind know exactly when something is rotten in a place. The corresponding school of magic is, by the way, the Lore of Shadows.
The Skaven are also said to take advantage of the Grey Wind on a large scale to conceal their entire existence. The ratmen are one of the greatest enemies of the Empire – but the Empire firmly believes that they do not exist. Stories about the Skaven are often dismissed as delusions or fairy tales. Perhaps this is the result of a great ritual by the ratmen that strengthens the fog.
Shyish, the Amethyst Wind
The Amethyst Wind Shyish collects where death is in the air: on battlefields, cemeteries, execution sites, and similar places. Therefore, the wind is often associated with death and necromancy, but it is more than that. It gathers in places of great loss and grants gifted wizards a brief glimpse into the past.
There are even rumors that some wizards returned from the dead during times when the wind blew particularly strong. They are said to have visited former colleagues at the Amethyst school or attended lectures. The school, of course, denies this. Their magic is already referred to as “Lore of Death” – there’s no need for stories to circulate that suggest necromancy.
A well-known sorceress of this school of magic is, by the way, Elspeth von Draken, a sorceress from Nuln – one of the most important cities of the Empire. During the End Times, the great necromancer Nagash even became an incarnation of Shyish and was further empowered by its magic.
