Battlefield 2042 is facing tough times, many decisions seem to not sit well with the fans. One of them was the removal of the popular mode Rush. This has now been reversed and brings joy – and mockery.
This is the situation:
- In December 2021, the game mode Rush was first introduced in Battlefield 2042 and was immediately well received. However, it was only in the game for a short time.
- On January 7, 2022, Rush was removed again – or rather replaced by other modes. Fans were pretty angry about that.
- Now, on January 13, Rush is making a comeback. Players are happy, but many can’t help but mock the decision a little.
What kind of mode is this? In Rush, you play a smaller version of the massive All-Out Warfare of Battlefield 2042. Instead of 128 or 64 players, there are only 32 players (16 per side) on smaller maps. Rush has been part of Battlefield for many years and installments.
The mode was so well received because the size of the maps was criticized even before release. The maps were said to be too large, and not enough was happening, even with many players. Rush offers more action because the space is limited. Even with fewer players, fans feel more comfortable here.
Battlefield 2042 removes Rush – But only for a week
This is how fans are reacting: Most players are actually happy about this decision. When Rush was supposed to disappear for the first time, the mode was extended because it was so well received.
On Twitter, it is said, for instance, by JerichoFive: “What a great move to show people that you are really listening. Battlefield WILL be good.” However, the makers and publishers are also subject to mockery.
At several points, it is stated that EA could at least acknowledge they made a mistake. While they are happy about the return, they cannot understand why Rush was removed in the first place. This is criticized by shooter expert Sua.
The mood has been turning increasingly against the game in recent weeks. Particularly, a developer’s statement that the expectations of fans are “brutal” led to a real shitstorm. It grew so strong that even reddit considered shutting down:
What about Battlefield 2042? The game is still struggling with issues. Features do not work properly or textures are missing. The criticism of the technical state is so large that Steam has decided to refund purchases contrary to the refund policy.
Ironically, the technical issues lead to Battlefield 2042 having one less plague than other shooters: cheaters. Because apparently, the bugs in the game cause cheats to not function properly, which has led one provider to throw in the towel:
Battlefield 2042 seems to be performing so poorly that even cheat providers are giving up
