You can join one of six factions with your character in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. MeinMMO wanted to know which faction you will start with, and you have chosen. You already know the winner for 15 years.
Starting October 31, you can play The Veilguard on PC, PS5, and Xbox. During character creation, you will choose one of six factions for your character “Rook”, which will equip you with a background and provide special dialogue options among other things.
We asked you in a survey which faction you will start with. 1,275 users participated (as of October 25 at 11:55 AM). The lesser-known groups occupy the last places:
- Place 6: The Veiljumpers with 78 votes (6 %)
- Place 5: The Masters of Fate with 99 votes (8 %)
- Place 4: The Mourning Watch with 113 votes (9 %)
In the top 3, however, there are a few factions that have appeared in earlier Dragon Age parts or even played important roles. MeinMMO presents them to you in detail.

Place 3: The Crows of Antiva (16 %, 200 votes)
As a Crow of Antiva, you belong to the best assassins, spies, and thieves in Thedas. The Crows are a shadow organization, but they hold the political strings in Antiva in many respects.
The guild’s motto is: A Crow always fulfills its contract. This makes them the most famous and best assassins in the world of Dragon Age. Already in the first part, Origins, you could have an assassin from the guild as a companion.
Interesting fact: The Crows of Antiva were once part of the church and were founded by monks north of the city of Treviso. These monks used their experience with herbs for poisoning and continued to expand their expertise.
In The Veilguard, Lucanis is a Crow of Antiva. Lucanis is one of the romance options in the new Dragon Age.
Place 2: The Shadow Dragons (24 %, 307 votes)
The Shadow Dragons are a relatively new organization that makes its first prominent appearance in The Veilguard. Previously, they appeared in the comic “The Missing,” where they freed a group of elven slaves from the grasp of the Venatori.
During this opportunity, the Shadow Dragons had already made contact with Solas, the “Terrorwolf,” who plays an important role in The Veilguard. However, not much more is known about the faction.
The detective and mage Neve Gallus is part of the Shadow Dragons, and you meet her as a companion in The Veilguard.
Place 1: The Grey Wardens (37 %, 478 votes)
The Grey Wardens received by far the most votes. The Wardens are one of the most important groups in the history of Dragon Age: They are the ones who fight the corruption and even infect themselves with this dangerous “plague” to do so.
A Warden must drink corrupted blood to be inducted, and if he survives this ritual, he can afterwards sense the corruption. To protect Thedas, the Grey Wardens can recruit people from all kingdoms to fight impending corruption.
The highest duty of a Warden is to destroy an Archdemon, thereby ending a corruption. However, the Grey Warden usually sacrifices his own life in the process. The neutral faction is respected throughout Thedas.
In The Veilguard, the elf Devrin is a Grey Warden. You yourself could already play a Grey Warden before: in the first Dragon Age, Origins, you start as a new recruit of the faction.
