Since WoW Classic has been playable for over a week, a trend of the most popular classes is slowly emerging. At least, this can be read to a certain extent from the demand for specific guides.
These are the most popular classes: The two sites wowhead and IcyVeins have published statistics indicating the popularity of their specific class guides.
Every class has its advantages and disadvantages, but at least in terms of guides, there are strong tendencies towards popularity. The distribution is somewhat different. The guides on the two sites have different levels of popularity:
Status of the table: September 3 at 3 PM.
It is particularly noticeable that in both lists, the healing classes are at the very bottom. In IcyVeins, every class that can heal is in the last places. In wowhead, at least the Hunter is still behind the Priest.
How are the numbers determined?
This is the basis of the rating: The numbers cannot be read with absolute certainty to determine which classes are played a lot and which are played little. Since it is only about the popularity of the guides, it can only be stated with certainty that more users look up how to play a Warrior than a Druid.
Reliable counting tools like Realmpop for the retail version of WoW are still missing in Classic. However, pure damage classes like Mages are generally more popular, as they can also solo through the game easily. A Mage even reached level 60 first.
This explains some positions: The popularity of these classes also explains why the guides are read more often. Players probably simply want to quickly reach the maximum level.
The fact that Priests are less popular is rather surprising. They are considered to be some of the strongest healers in WoW Classic and should also find a place in every group. Anyone playing a Priest in WoW Classic will quickly find friends. However, their rank could have several reasons:
- Only one healer is needed per group
- Leveling as a healer without a group takes significantly longer
- Healer players might be experienced enough not to need to read guides
For classes like the Paladin and Shaman, their position is explained by the fact that they are only available for one faction each. This alone diminishes the potential readership for the corresponding guides. Some players are surely also still experimenting with finding the right class for themselves:
