Only a few months remain until the release of “The Final Shape” and even though there is only one season left, there is now a bitter piece of news that fans of Destiny 2 will have to endure and that is the delay of the most important DLC.
What are the Guardians waiting for? This concerns the most important DLC of Destiny 2 and that is “The Final Shape”. In this chapter of the sci-fi saga, the story surrounding the battle of light and darkness will be concluded. Guardians will march into battle against the Witness and try to prevent the unstoppable end of the entire universe.
A spectacle that many Guardians have been waiting for since the release of Destiny 1 and even though the DLC is so important, it now has to be delayed by a few months.

Layoffs may be the reason for the delay
Why is the DLC being delayed? Unfortunately, no one knows exactly at the moment. According to the insider and gaming journalist “Jason Schreier“, some employees were laid off at Bungie.
The exact number of layoffs is not yet known, but a large part of the employees have spoken up on social media. So far, it seems that mostly only communicative positions have been cut.
If that weren’t enough, it seems that the release of “The Final Shape” and the upcoming extraction shooter “Marathon” has also been affected. Both have been delayed:
- The DLC “The Final Shape” was supposed to be released on February 27 – Now June is being targeted.
- Marathon did not have a release date yet, but many considered 2024 as a possible release year – Now it will be 2025.
This information comes from Bloomberg from “people familiar with the matter who wished to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak on the record.”
What will happen in the additional months until the Final Shape? No one knows that for sure yet. Jason Schreier’s news was hastily written and Bungie has not yet had a chance to address the current situation in the company.
Bungie employees were therefore only recently informed about the delays of the two projects. It is quite possible that Bungie will provide more detailed and first-hand information to the Destiny community in its weekly TWiD post on Thursday regarding the upcoming events and the reasons behind them.
