Diablo Immortal floods you with rewards and a multitude of different currencies, each serving a different purpose. One of them seemed inexhaustible at first, but the influx will soon end. You need them to purchase emblems.
What is this currency? Hilt is a type of supplementary currency to gold. Unlike platinum, you cannot buy it directly, but only receive it through playing, similar to gold.
With Hilt, you can purchase special items from the special Hilt vendor in Westmark. The currency is especially important for free-to-play players.
Why is this currency so important? The vendor sells you items that as a free-to-play player you can only obtain in limited quantities, as well as items that actually fall under the loot limits:
- Legendary emblems
- Legendary and normal gemstones
- Rare emblems
- Random legendary items
- Crafting materials
- Spells
Many of these items can only be purchased once a month or are limited per week. Especially the legendary emblems and the gemstone are important here, as they are some of the few ways to reliably obtain legendary gemstones for free.

Hilt are getting scarce – How to save correctly
Why is the currency getting scarce? At the beginning of Diablo Immortal, you will be flooded with Hilt as a new player. This is because the reward for most achievements as well as for mastering challenge portals is Hilt.
However, achievements are unique or become increasingly difficult to obtain, just like higher-level portals. This means you will receive less Hilt the longer you play. Later, your only reliable sources will be the Battle Pass and some quests of the Shadow faction.
Once you have completed the Battle Pass, you will even receive fewer Hilt rewards than during the regular level-ups in the pass. The upcoming update is supposed to improve the Battle Pass, but how it will look and when it will come is still unclear.
How can I save? If you have already reached the endgame and completed many of the achievements, you should start only buying specific items. As Diablo YouTuber DM: Diablo Immortal explains (via YouTube), your priority at the Hilt vendor:
- The legendary emblem once a month
- The second legendary emblem if you are Immortal
- Rare emblems
These items are the most important to maintain your grind. You will always need them to obtain better loot from elder portals and to improve your legendary gemstones. This will enhance your combat rating and your resonance, the key factors for becoming stronger.
Normal and legendary gemstones should only be purchased if you are really sure that you still have enough Hilt left for all other important items in the coming weeks.
Legendary items are not worth it at all, as you can farm them better. This works through grinding in dungeons, rifts, or in the open world. The same goes for spells and crafting materials.
Despite the many criticisms, Diablo Immortal actually has some good approaches that MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus would love to see in the sequel:
