In League of Legends there is a kind of religious war about which key to assign the skill “Flash”. In this discussion, the star player Faker has now spoken out, as for him, there is only one correct answer.
What is this discussion about? In LoL, there are two so-called summoner spells that have a strong effect but also a long cooldown. Therefore, it is important to time their use correctly. Each skill is assigned to the “F” key and one to the “D” key.
But where the skill Flash belongs, a teleport that is almost always taken, is a hotly debated topic.
What does Faker say? The Korean Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is one of the most famous LoL players in the world and is one of those who assign Flash to the “F” key.
In Korea, the majority of professionals use this setting. 78% of players from the LCK, the highest Korean league, have assigned the key accordingly (via Reddit).
In a livestream, Faker made it clear on March 31 what he thinks about the distribution of skills. He said, according to a translation:
Don’t argue about whether Flash belongs on [the key] D or F. Everyone has their own preferences.
Just because mint chocolate is disgusting, you can’t blame the people who like the taste. Some people just like tasteless food.
It was also not the first time he expressed himself this way. In recent years, there have been funny responses from the professional player regarding this matter of faith.
He competed for the team of SK Telecom 1 and achieved 3rd place with his teammates, even placing ahead of the first team from their own camp, SK Telecom 1 (only 5th-8th place).
So far, the superstar has achieved 3 World Championship titles (2013, 2015, and 2016), as well as many other tournament successes. In 2019 he was even portrayed as the LoL god by Riot itself.
Silver players have Flash on “D”
What else did Faker say? In April 2019, Faker also explained in a livestream what he really thinks about players who assign Flash to the “D” key:
Why do many silver players have Flash on the “D” key? If you have Flash on “D”, then you’re silver. You can’t assign Flash to “D”.
This saying was even picked up by the famous American player Doublelift during the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational. At that time, the pro confessed in a joint interview with Faker that he uses a different key assignment:
I’m ashamed, I am silver.
By the way, Doublelift is not alone in this. In the American LCS, 65% of players assign Flash to the “D” key (via Reddit).
How is the season going for the two players? The year 2020 could not be more different for Faker and Doublelift:
- For Faker and his team, much changed in 2020. Two strong teammates and the coach left T1. Nevertheless, the team managed to achieve 2nd place in the LCK during the Spring Split.
- Team Liquid around Doublelift had only one change, but struggled this season. They finished only in second last place in the LCS, although they had been champions in the previous years.
However, both players can still be seen at the 2020 World Championship. The upcoming Summer Split will be crucial for qualification.
