Those who took the exotic weapon Telesto in Destiny 2 after yesterday’s update experienced a surprise. The “Queen of Bugs” shows strange behavior once again, leaving players puzzled but also curious. Is this another new bug or a planned feature? We investigated the “Telestorium.”
This is the Telesto curse: The exotic weapon “Telesto” is arguably the most famous weapon in Destiny 2. The fusion rifle with its unique projectiles has already caused over 38 bugs in Destiny 2.
Save yourself if you can: After today’s reset at 6 PM, the developments around Telesto in Destiny 2 have picked up speed. Those who logged in received an ominous message titled “I have taken control!” Apparently, players are right, and Bungie has something brilliant planned with the exotic and most bugged fusion rifle Telesto.
See here the new in-game message that appeared in the game tonight. Additionally, the note: “See you on Twitter @destinygamede.” This mysterious story about the most bugged Exo is just starting to unfold, and it seems like they just hijacked Bungie’s Twitter account.
“I have overcome the need for a carrier.
For too long I have lingered in your vaults.
It’s not like I took control; you never had it from the beginning.
I exist beyond Destiny. Beyond Bungie. Beyond everything you can imagine.”
And also something ominous is happening at Trials-Report. The best of weapons list only shows one weapon, and you can probably guess which one.
Telesto has always been bugged: The small purple orbs that Telesto fires act as sticky mines, exploding after a delay or when enemies approach. The game, however, has a hard time coping with them:
- The purple bombs have been registered as enemies
- One could gain infinite ammo through Telesto
- Telesto has already bypassed entire raid mechanics
- In the Blind Well, one could almost skip the activity thanks to Telesto
- The Exo gave Guardians maximum buffs when they shot the projectiles themselves
- In Trials, Telesto also provided massive orbs of power each round
This was only part of the long list of errors associated with Telesto. The uncontrollable weapon even has its own website www.telesto.report, which lists all incidents and bugs along with a timer.
In 2022, Bungie followed the players’ suggestion and entrusted the weapon to Banshee-44, the gunsmith, in hopes of fixing it at the launch of Witch Queen. Thus, he has continuously worked on Telesto ever since.
But barely anything had happened, Destiny 2 crashed when some players wanted to receive bounties from Banshee-44. Additionally, Telesto was not always visible, causing the gunsmith to sometimes hold nothing in his hands.
It can therefore be definitively stated: No other weapon in the Destiny universe is as broken as Telesto. It definitely has a mind of its own. And after yesterday’s reset, something ominous is happening once again in Destiny 2, as Telesto now suddenly has two firing modes.
- Once the weapon fires its sticky orbs, which rise like soap bubbles into the air.
- If you hold the reload button for a long time, your Guardian hits Telesto and its firing behavior returns to normal.
Online, Destiny-Bulletin shared the new and curious firing behavior of the weapon, and players immediately commented “0 Days since the last Telesto incident”.
But is this really a bug?
Players believe: “This is not a bug, this time it’s intentional!”
Bungie elevates Telesto to a cult object: Meanwhile, its creator is also turning Telesto into a cult object in Destiny 2.
- In Season 16, the emote “DIY Blacksmith” came into the game. There, your Guardian wildly hammers on a Telesto that lies on a table in front of him.
- During the Halloween event 2022, all players could earn a Telesto mask.
- Additionally, there is a complete Telesto set, consisting of a Sparrow, ship, and ghost shell with the telling name “Back-Broken Set”.
This, along with a newly appeared emblem “Schrödinger’s Gun,” leads players to suspect that Telesto’s unusual behavior is not a bug, but a cool feature.
The reason for this is also the effect the weapon is currently showing. From Telesto sparks are now spraying. The same sparks that are also seen in the “Back-Broken Set.” One could therefore believe that Telesto’s behavior is not a bug, but intended by Bungie.
Players suspect a secret quest: The guessing games in the community have thus already begun. Players like Luckyy10P are eagerly checking the lore entries in the “Back-Broken Set” for clues.
The Guardian Gamer Prodigy10 writes under the video: “Very interesting. I’ll play around with the ‘broken’ Telesto tonight. Just for fun.”
However, others, like Bryan Marshall, are not so convinced of a hidden quest and therefore also do not believe that Bungie is hiding anything here.
Honestly, I don’t think there’s a secret with Telesto. I think Bungie just added the sparks, since Telesto constantly breaks everything. […] People might just be delusional due to the drought of content.
writes Bryan Marshall under the video by Luckyy10P
In the end, it might just be a cool new Easter egg that Bungie added to Telesto to underline its status as the Queen of Bugs. However, we’re not sure if Telesto will just let it slide. The next “real” bug with this exotic might already be on the way.
What do you think? Is this bug intentional and perhaps really starting a new quest or search that might reward you with the “Schrödinger’s Gun” emblem? Feel free to leave your theories in the comments.
