Moon Studios, the creators of one of the most beautiful games on Steam, are tackling the ARPG genre. No Rest for the Wicked is set to enter Early Access on April 18, 2024.
What kind of game is this? No Rest for the Wicked is an upcoming ARPG from Moon Studios, the makers of the immensely popular Ori games. After the developers have already made their mark on the Metroidvania genre, they want to do the same for ARPGs.
Although No Rest For The Wicked’s use of the terms ARPG and Hack&Slay initially made many think of it as new competition for Diablo, the gameplay is said to lean more towards Soulslike – with tactical battles and challenging bosses.
In a showcase on March 1, 2024, the developers revealed new details about the game. No Rest for the Wicked is set to enter Early Access on April 18 on Steam. A release for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is planned to follow. MeinMMO will tell you what else is in the showcase.
Brutal combat in a beautiful world
What do we know about No Rest for the Wicked? In the showcase, the developers discuss primarily four aspects of the ARPG: the world, the combat, the bosses, and the city of Sacrament.
The world of No Rest for the Wicked is not procedurally generated but is said to be crafted by the developers down to the smallest detail. They promise a dense and interactive world that players can freely explore. For this reason, mouse control has been omitted; players can move through the world using WASD or a controller.
Another standout feature of No Rest for the Wicked is the hand-drawn aesthetic that made the Ori games visual masterpieces. Instead of striving for a realistic look, the creators aim to evoke the feeling of a painting come to life, as they revealed in the showcase.
The combat in No Rest for the Wicked is said to be intuitive yet demanding. Correct timing, distance, and the weight of the weapon are said to be crucial to defeating opponents. Players will have access to a variety of weapons in four different rarity tiers.
However, the most common weapons of the Common
rarity are not just pure trash loot as in many other games. Rather, these weapons offer the most customization options. Rare weapons, on the other hand, can only be enchanted with specific enhancements.
The right weapons and armor will be particularly important in the fight against the bosses: for they are said to be absolutely brutal and punish even the smallest mistakes, as the developers reveal. Only those who use their skills correctly and wait for the right moment will be able to stand against them.
For those who have had enough of all the fighting, a break can be taken in the capital city of Sacrament. The city is scarred by war but is intended to be gradually rebuilt by the players. Furthermore, players can buy and furnish a house there.

What is known about Early Access? The Early Access for No Rest for the Wicked will start on April 18, 2024, on Steam. At that time, the first chapter of the campaign, as well as additional quests and a large selection of weapons, armor, and skills is expected to be included.
The first version should also already offer daily and weekly bounties and challenges, as well as a dungeon that can be run repeatedly. The first major update is also expected to introduce a multiplayer mode that allows players to experience No Rest for the Wicked with up to three other players.
