The new MMORPG Chrono Odyssey aims to distinguish itself from existing genre representatives. For this, the developers have drawn unusual inspiration.
What kind of game is it? Chrono Odyssey is an ambitious open-world action MMORPG by developer Chrono Studio and publisher Kakao Games, set to be released in 2025 for PC and consoles. It promises a seamless game world without loading screens, where dynamic events are meant to challenge players.
The core of the game is the “Chronotector”, a tool for time manipulation that plays a central role in both combat and navigation through the world. Visually, Chrono Odyssey stands out with a mix of dark fantasy and harmonious medieval aesthetics, aiming to create a unique yet tense atmosphere.
The action combat system is inspired by Soulslikes, emphasizing precision and the flexible use of 18 weapons divided into 6 classes. The game offers a blend of solo and group content, including dungeons and world bosses, and integrates a PvPvE system where PvP can be disabled outside certain zones. The developers also emphasize that there will be no pay-to-win elements and a global release without regional differences is planned.

How does Chrono Odyssey differ? The new MMORPG draws its inspiration neither from elves nor dwarves. Instead, the developers want to destroy a peaceful medieval world with alien invaders.
The optics and setting of the MMORPG have therefore been strongly shaped by the question, “What would it look like if an alien civilization—like the one portrayed in the film Prometheus—invaded a medieval world?”, as the developers revealed in an interview with MMORPG.com.
There will be a fusion of “dark fantasy” settings with “science fiction” elements. The developers have also drawn inspiration from both Western and Eastern visual traditions to create an interesting medieval aesthetic.
The film Prometheus serves as an important source of inspiration for the unique aesthetics of Chrono Odyssey. The developers have adopted the menacing, dark atmosphere and aim to continually break the MMORPG with new influences from the film. This is evident, for example, in the types of enemies and bosses in the MMORPG.
