In Destiny 2, a quest caused Guardians two weeks of headaches, but now completing it is doubly rewarding. Because alongside a powerful reward, the resolution of a 3-year-old story awaits.
These are the quests: On May 12, Destiny 2 surprised its players with a secret quest: “The Lie”. This came as a surprise (setting aside the leaks), as the powder of Season 10 had supposedly already been fired.
However, the quest turned into a true nightmare for both the players and Bungie itself. We look at what went wrong and why a clear recommendation for the quest can now be made.
Why was the task so terrible? A summary of the two-week saga of the quest “The Lie” reads anything but inviting:
- The quest started so frustratingly that no one wanted to play it: A community event had to be conquered before the personal task could be pursued.
- After a short time, it became clear: the community goal was set far too high – players were not keen on grinding an unpopular activity millions of times.
- Due to the outcry, the quest step was eventually made 10x easier and cracked a few days later.
- Just before the quest finale, a bug stopped players – now it was once again time to wait.
- One day later, Destiny 2 received an update – but the quest fix everyone was waiting for was not included.
- Three days later, the much-anticipated fix appeared, but the final quest step lacked an epic conclusion – the reward came without a fight.
Now that all the problems of the past days have been resolved, you should enjoy the quest. Because the last mission offers some real treats.
The Lie closes story gaps and offers one of the strongest weapons
This thrilling story is unveiled: Instead of a fight, players are greeted in the secret section of the bunker by a series of holograms. This reveals a well-told story.
We learn that Felwinter is essentially the son of the dubious Warmind Rasputin. The AI had sent the Exo as a spy to the Iron Lords. But Felwinter became an honorable member of Destiny’s version of the Knights of the Round Table. Subsequently, SIVA was used as a trap – how that turned out, many veterans from the expansion Rise of Iron might still remember: the Iron Lords were imprisoned and eradicated.
Guardians finally learn after 3 years what lies behind the story of the downfall of the Iron Lords.
These lore insights are also available: The mission provides attentive players with even more cool insights into the history of Destiny:
- It seems that we see Rasputin’s original AI core in the bunker – the form he had before he became today’s machine god.
- The secret facility appears to be a shrine or mausoleum for the deceased Iron Lord. We extract the quest reward from a hologram of Felwinter, which is in a kind of coffin – does the AI grieve for its lost son?
When players subsequently equip the reward weapon (Felwinter’s Lie), further secrets may be revealed with kills. With every few kills, you will receive a lore entry. It tells the story of how the original wielder of the shotgun is hunted through the universe by AI-dad Rasputin, loses his memory, and becomes a Guardian.
That’s why the quest weapon is worth it: For those who find the thrilling story of the Iron Lords, Rasputin, and the murder of Destiny-Jesus Felwinter uninteresting, there’s an excellent weapon as a quest reward – which is now correctly displayed in the collection.
The legendary shotgun made a name for itself as an OP weapon in Destiny 1. In its current version, it is no longer broken, but very strong, and currently likely the best gun of its kind in PvP.

Conclusion on the quest “The Lie”: After the frustration regarding the course and issues of the quest has eased, positive voices are increasing. On reddit , amidst the angry posts, there are now more posts like: “In the midst of all the bad surrounding the Lie quest, I was quite shocked when I found out how convincing Felwinter’s story is in my opinion.”
Other gaming magazines are joining in and writing:
If we hadn’t encountered all these issues with the community quest and this glitched door, this quest would have been quite a massive mystery in my opinion.

We find it a shame that the technical issues of the quest stirred such a bitter aftertaste, but we recommend every Guardian out there to complete the mission soon. Because in two weeks a new chapter will start in Destiny 2 and is likely to remove “The Lie”, along with its cool story and powerful reward.
While we still do not know the name of the next season, we can already give you a small glimpse into the summer season starting on June 9. Among other things, Bungie has announced that nerfs and buffs for your weapons and perks are on the agenda.
