A company presented a smart stroller at CES, the largest electronics trade fair in the world. It offers a lot of features but costs as much as a high-end gaming PC. MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann wonders: Who on earth would spend so much money on a stroller?
CES is regarded as the largest electronics trade fair in the world. Here, manufacturers present new products, including televisions, processors, or new gadgets for gamers. Some products are also awarded prizes at CES.
The manufacturer GluxKind has now received the CES Innovation Award for a smart stroller. However, it costs more than a high-performance gaming system.
Stroller costs more than a high-end gaming PC
What kind of product is this? The company Gluxkind has introduced the intelligent stroller “Ella”. Gluxkind is a Canadian startup focused on baby products.
What features does the model offer? The stroller has several features that we already know from autonomous cars. It has a dual-motor system for uphill walks and an automatic braking support for downhill.
Additionally, the device is equipped with sensors that detect objects in the surroundings – such as sidewalks or stairs. However, this is meant only as assistance and not as a replacement for the mom or dad who would otherwise be pushing the stroller.
Ella can also drive by itself – but only when there is no child in the stroller. It uses the sensors and built-in cameras to safely navigate its way.
Anne Hunger, CPO and co-founder of Gluxkind, explains that they put a lot of time into developing the stroller (via cnn.com):
The development was driven by our own experiences as new parents. We have put a lot of hard work into this product and look forward to putting it in the hands of more customers in 2023.
For €3,300 you can pre-order the stroller or furnish a nursery
What does the model cost? The price for the stroller is €3,300 for pre-order. This is significantly higher than what you would normally pay for conventional models, which range between €60 and €400. For motorized strollers, the price is around €1,300, like the “Bugaboo Donkey 5 Mono stroller.”
Whether one really wants to invest so much money is another question. After all, you could also furnish a nursery with that money. Especially in the current situation, with rising prices and high inflation, several thousand euros is a lot of money that I wouldn’t casually put into an innovative stroller.
Moreover: Would I really trust a smart stroller with my beloved child? Presumably, all the technology would make me more nervous than calm.
When can you buy the stroller? According to the manufacturer, you can now put yourself on the pre-order list. The stroller is expected to be delivered starting April 2023. So if you need a stroller and have money left, Ella is a great option.
