New information on the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV has been release. In addition to a roadmap for the chinese relase, there are insights into one of the endgame raids of A Realm Reborn, armor dyeing, and the UI update.
What do raids look like on mobile? A Chinese Bilibili account hosted a live letter stream regarding the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV. It included, among other things, first insights into the endgame raids of the base version of the game, A Realm Reborn.
The character is controlled with a movement pad at the bottom left of the screen. On the right are the buttons for sprinting, jumping, attacking, as well as seven action buttons and the limit break.
The raid shown was The Binding Coil of Bahamut – Turn 1. However, the fight seems to have been simplified: there are no running paths, and players start directly at the first boss in a simplified arena. New elements include interruptible mechanics, new slime or puddle mechanics, tank swaps, and a split boss phase. The developers have thus not just copied the fight but updated it with fresh mechanics.
Up to 16 colors per armor and UI reworks
What else was shown? Besides first insights into the mobile raids, there was also initial information on other gameplay details. An Auto Pathing System
is supposed to help navigate quests and FATEs.
Armour will also be dyeable as usual. According to the stream though, up to 16 different color channels are possible. This is huge, since within the main game, a maximum of two different colors can currently be used per item at the same time. The UI allows players to choose whether to dye all channels simultaneously or assign each one individually a desired color.
As teased at the beginning of the news, there are adjustments to the combat system. One new feature is a dodge button that all classes will receive. The action has a 15-second cooldown. How exactly it will function is still unknown.
Additionally, it should be possible to view player statistics, and the UI has been redesigned for mobile and optimized for touch screens.
Explicitly not included in Final Fantasy XIV Mobile are supposedly gacha mechanics. According to the developers at LightSpeed Studio, they are completely avoiding these. The focus will be on a few microtransactions.
