These professions exist: In Final Fantasy, you have the choice of 8 different crafting classes, the Disciplines of the Hand:
- Alchemist – For creating potions
- Armorer – For creating metal armor
- Carpenter – For creating wooden items like weapons or furniture
- Gourmet – For making buff food
- Blacksmith – For crafting metal weapons
- Goldsmith – For making jewelry
- Leatherworker – For crafting leather armor
- Weaver – For crafting cloth armor
As with the regular combat jobs, you are not bound to a discipline here. You can learn all professions at the same time and switch between them at will by equipping the respective “weapon” of the profession. So a saw for the carpenter or a pan for the gourmet.
Unlocking and leveling such a job brings bonus effects like repairing or breaking down items.
How does crafting work? Directly when learning the profession, you can see the recipes for it, and the list expands as you level up. If you have the required items together, you can produce the item. However, there are some peculiarities compared to many other MMORPGs.
In the crafting interface, you see various stats, all of which are important in the production:
- The progress bar shows you how much is needed for the item to be completed. Once this bar is filled, the item is automatically finished and placed in your inventory.
- The quality bar shows whether your item has high quality or not. Quality is essential, especially for armor with stats. You can increase the quality through work steps.
- The durability bar indicates how many steps you can still take before the crafting fails and is lost. Most adjustments to progress and quality reduce durability.
To craft the highest items in the game, you need not only a high skill in the professions but also suitable crafter gear and special recipe books which you can exchange with NPCs for crafting tokens.
It is basically the crafting endgame of FFXIV. For the tokens, you must submit high-quality, self-crafted items to NPCs in exchange for rare materials, furniture, or books with valuable recipes.
In general, crafting in Final Fantasy XIV is useful for obtaining better equipment and especially for making money at the market board.
What Final Fantasy XIV offers
What else does the MMORPG offer? Final Fantasy XIV resembles classic Japanese RPGs due to the strong focus on the story. The start is somewhat sluggish, but especially at the endgame, you can expect varied tasks and challenging instances.
- You can learn all jobs (the classes) with one character
- There is a vast game world
- The focus is heavily on the story
- There are many challenges in the form of dungeons and raids with varying difficulty levels
Recently, with the expansion Endwalker, the original story of the game was concluded. In 2024, it continues with Dawntrail into a completely new story. Whether Final Fantasy XIV is worth your time in 2024 can be found here: Is it still worth starting Final Fantasy XIV in 2024?
