These professions exist: In Guild Wars 2, there are nine professions:
- Chef – Creates buff food
- Jeweler – Creates jewelry
- Constructor – Creates special weapons like staffs and scepters
- Leatherworker – Creates medium armor
- Armor Smith – Creates heavy armor
- Seamstress – Creates light armor
- Writer – Creates decorations for the guild hall
- Blacksmith – Creates weapons from iron
- Hunter – Creates classic wooden weapons like bows or torches
As in WoW, you can initially learn and improve only two professions at the same time. However, you do not lose progress when you switch to another profession. Switching only costs a bit of in-game silver. There are also additional crafting licenses in the shop, allowing a character to have more than two professions at the same time.
Gathering in Guild Wars 2 operates separately from the crafting system. You can gather everything with any character, provided you have the appropriate gathering tools. Additionally, you can earn experience points through crafting and even level entire characters if you wish.
How does crafting work? You must visit a special workbench where you can craft the desired items. However, you automatically receive only a portion of the recipes or acquire them through the vendor. The other recipes must be discovered by combining random items.
This is especially fun with the Chef, as many recipes here resemble those that would actually work in real life.
Crafting plays an important role in Guild Wars 2 because it is how you can create the maximum ascended gear and also requires legendary weapons, which are not necessarily stronger gameplay-wise but have a unique appearance.
What Guild Wars 2 offers
What else does the MMORPG offer? Guild Wars 2 offers a huge game world in which your character scales. You will thus be scaled down from max level when entering one of the starting areas. This keeps some of the older content still quite challenging.
