The MMORPG New World still has nearly 20,000 players on Steam: Announces something big for 2024

The MMORPG New World experienced a resurgence on Steam at the end of 2023: In October 2023, there was an average of 37,000 people online – the player count slightly decreased in December. Nevertheless, Amazon’s MMORPG is still relevant. What do the developers say about 2024? What new content can players expect?

How have the player numbers developed?

• At launch, New World had fantastic player numbers on Steam – at its peak, in October 2021, there were an average of 410,000. However, a majority of players had mostly left by February 2022, when Amazon’s next MMORPG, Lost Ark, was launched.
• In November 2022, New World achieved a short-term resurgence with an average of 67,000, which faded quickly. In 2023, it was quiet for a long time until in October 2023, it went up again with the new expansion and reached 37,400 players.
• There are always periods each year where the game has significantly more players than usual – actually a good sign for the Buy2Play MMORPG.

Big Plans for PvE and PvP

What is said for 2024: Just before Christmas, there was a YouTube video from the developers (via youtube). The head, Scott Lang, mentioned there:

“We would love nothing more than to tell you: Here is everything we have planned for 2024. But we just can’t do that right now. However, I can tell you: There will be a lot. I can’t tell you how excited we are for 2024. Okay, I just shared that with you. A lot is coming in 2024, but we can’t go into detail about it right now.”

Are they doing something for PvE or PvP? Later in the video, it was reiterated that players can “expect a lot of great things in PvE and PvP.” There are big plans for PvP in 2024, but also a lot to offer in PvE, including storytelling and “casual” activities.

But even here, the head, Scott Lang, did not want to go into details.
