Lord of the Rings Online has now been running for over 12 years, and the developers still have new content prepared for the community. The next update brings a new zone from the story of the Lord of the Rings as well as new stories that prepare for the upcoming expansion.
What kind of zone is this? With the new Update 24.2, you’ll be heading to the areas of the Gladden Fields, a tributary of the Anduin. After Update 24 already introduced the valleys of the Anduin , paths now lead from these to the new area.
The paths lead to the “Gladdenmere” high above the Gladden Fields. This is a historically significant area, as Isildur was killed on the Gladden Fields and the One Ring was lost, to be found later by Hobbits at the Gladden.

This is what the new update brings to LOTRO
This is how the story continues: As a “stopover” between the valleys of the Anduin and the Gladden, you will help Gandalf save the woodworkers and Beornings after a darkness visits the valleys.
The adventure is available for all players who already own the Black Book of Mordor.
This is how you reach the “Gladdenmere”: In the new update, which has already been playable on the test server, the famous wizard Radagast leads you into the new area. A mysterious mist creeps from the lake into the swamps, presenting puzzles to Radagast.
Those who wish to help him must have completed the adventures in the valleys of Anduin and can then visit any landmark in the valleys to begin the journey.

This is still to come: In addition to the new area and new quests, there are some changes to the “Captain” class. It has been slightly adjusted, but should now be able to deal more damage.
Additionally, there are some innovations and bug fixes with the UI, quests, and adventures. A list of innovations can be found in the official LOTRO forum.
This is how it continues with LOTRO
This is what the future brings: The quest with Gandalf already leads you on the way to the next expansion, which was announced for February. The new addon will have something to do with Imlad Morgul, the “Deep Valley of Magic”.
There are well-known locations like Cirith Ungol, the lair of the giant spider Kankra, and Minas Morgul, the fortress of the Nazgûl. There is no release date yet.
Why is this interesting? That LOTRO is still receiving expansions and new content after 12 years is something special. It means, that LOTRO is still doing well. Many other MMORPGs stop getting new content after just a few years and fade away:
