In an interview, lead developer and producer Naoki Yoshida of Final Fantasy XIV stated that there will soon be a second entry point for new players. However, he advises against skipping any part of the story.
What new feature will be introduced? New players will be able to skip a large portion of the story of Final Fantasy XIV. This way, they can catch up with their friends more quickly and enjoy the content together (via famitsu.com).
The second entry point is expected to be introduced with Patch 6.1. It will skip hundreds of hours of experiences from the following games and expansions:
- A Realm Reborn
- Heavensward
- Stormblood
- Shadowbringers
- Endwalker
However, players cannot skip the post-Endwalker patch quests and the new expansion Dawntrail with the second entry point.
