Wayfinder has left Early Access and has become a completely different game: Instead of an MMO, you can expect an action role-playing game for PC, PS5, and Xbox. The in-game shop has also been removed.
What is changing in Wayfinder? Wayfinder started in August 2023 as a Free2Play MMO. In May, just a year later, the player numbers dropped significantly. Subsequently, the developers decided to restart: this time as a Pay2Play action role-playing game with optional co-op.
On October 21, 2024, the new version of the game left Early Access. The developers showcase in a trailer what players can expect on Steam and PS5 – and what not.
In Wayfinder, you hunt bosses alone or in co-op mode and fight your way through random dungeons where you collect new weapons, armor, and skins. You choose your character from one of 8 predefined Wayfinders. There is also housing.

Skins to unlock, instead of in the shop
With the monetization, the developers bid farewell to the Free2Play model of the MMO. Instead, they now sell their game for just under 25 €. All skins for weapons and armor that you previously had to buy in the shop can now be unlocked in the game.
The removal of microtransactions is well received by many players, at least in the comments under the new trailer on YouTube:
- NikFlyer: “I will buy it just to support the approach of “no microtransactions”. If I like it in the end, even better.”
- abrahamcollins1911: “Just bought it a few hours ago to support the comeback of the development team and their approach without microtransactions. Hopefully, this will inspire a new and improved gaming era.”
- ShrianBaijal: “No microtransactions?? I’m in.”
On Steam, Wayfinder has also made a strong restart: 88% of the recent reviews are positive. However, when considering all reviews since the Early Access release, only 52% are positive.
Not all fans were thrilled that the developer Airship Syndicate shelved the MMO. Especially at the beginning, many players complained that they had already invested a lot of money into the game. Later, however, some players believed that it was exactly the right decision.
