The Korean MMO giant NCSoft wants to gift 3000 employees a Nintendo Switch and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. NCSoft seems to be entering the console market.
As reported by 2p, the CEO of NCSoft, Kim Taek-Jin, announced that he will gift all over 3000 employees of the company a Nintendo Switch and a copy of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.” The CEO of the PC giant (Lineage, Blade and Soul, Guild Wars 2) says that he had so much fun with Breath of the Wild that he wants to share this experience with every employee of his company.
Problems in Practice
However, there are some issues. The decision to buy a console for every employee came so suddenly and unexpectedly that there are difficulties in implementation. NCSoft cannot purchase 3000 Switch consoles in such a short time – and the Switch has not even been released in South Korea yet.
Therefore, it will probably take a while before every NCSoft employee can become Link.
NCSoft seems to enter the console market – Guild Wars 2 or Blade&Soul likely candidates for PS4/Xbox One port?
It is suspected that this decision could also be understood symbolically. Kim Taek-Jin likely has ambitions to lead NCSoft into the growing console market. A few years ago, there were plans to bring Blade and Soul to PS3 and Xbox 360. Obviously, the CEO of NCSoft has not yet buried the dreams of conquering the console market.
In Asia, consoles play only a minor role – PC and mobile games are dominant there. However, NCSoft is considered among Asian publishers to be the most western-oriented. With Guild Wars 2, NCSoft distributes a classic western MMO game.
Also, Korean competitors have recently started to explore the console market. So TERA and Black Desert are planning a port to consoles in the near future.
Maybe fans of Guild Wars 2 or Blade & Soul can still hope for a version for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or actually for the Nintendo Switch?
