Bungie has finally introduced the new mysterious activity “Menagerie”, which will be featured in the Season of Opulence in Destiny 2. This is aimed at groups of 6 Guardians, but it is not a raid. Here is what we know so far.
Many Guardians have been eagerly awaiting this: Some time ago, Bungie announced that there would be a new activity in Destiny 2 as part of the Season 7, which requires 6 players and offers matchmaking, but is not a raid.
No further information has been provided. While this has sparked the curiosity of many Guardians, they have been left in the dark since then. Until now. With the official presentation of Season 7, more concrete details about this new activity have finally been revealed.
The Menagerie – what’s behind the new group activity of Destiny 2
What is the Menagerie? It is a new pinnacle activity designed to excite fans of challenging group content. This fulfills a great wish for them.
Fans have long requested the ability to engage in activities outside of raids in larger groups. Now they will have another option to explore in a group of 6 players.
What is the activity about? The Menagerie revolves around the Cabal Emperor Calus. He challenges the Guardians to prove their worth. This all takes place within the context of this new activity in the interior of the Leviathan.
How does the Menagerie unfold? The exact process as well as specific mechanics are not yet fully known. Bungie has only provided superficial insights into this new activity so far. Additionally, a leak from AnonTheNine offers potential clues about the process of the Menagerie.
What we know so far:
- The Sweeper Robot Benedict 90-44, who has previously served as a raid vendor, will be your main point of contact. He will introduce you to this new event and guide you through it.
- You will go to the Leviathan. In previously hidden chambers of this World-Eater, you will fight through a labyrinth full of challenges and face various monsters and different bosses.
- You will apparently face waves of enemies on constantly changing paths. The Menagerie thus emphasizes replayability.
- There will be multiple new bosses that will go live at staggered intervals. They will likely rotate afterward.
- In the new trailer, some scenes feature a ball mechanic where a Guardian must transport a kind of sphere. Whether this will actually be used in the Menagerie remains to be seen.
- Additionally, there are new secrets to uncover on previously undiscovered decks of the Leviathan. A leak from AnonTheNine mentions that players must solve puzzles while being attacked by enemy waves to escape a room.
- Through the Menagerie, you will be able to earn all sorts of exclusive gear. The so-called Chalice of Opulence plays an important role in this.
- The Menagerie is designed for 6 players and offers matchmaking – at least on the normal difficulty level. At the end of June, this activity will receive a heroic mode, which will no longer have player search. Therefore, you will need to form groups independently in heroic mode.
What is the Chalice of Opulence? One of the first steps within the Menagerie will be to assemble the Chalice of Opulence. You will then use this chalice to offer special runes as tribute, which can likely be earned in this activity and then exchanged through the chalice for weapons and armor pieces.
With the chalice, you will also become stronger, as it grants you access to increasingly powerful treasures. The Chalice of Opulence can be upgraded, which allows you to receive more and more powerful rewards and better determine which gear you earn.
With it, you can then choose what kind of gear you will receive in the Menagerie. It will thus be possible to work specifically towards certain rewards from the Menagerie.

What do the rewards look like? Bungie has not disclosed this yet. However, it is mentioned in the relevant section of the blog that the Season of Opulence would offer a new way to earn some of the best gear in the entire game. It refers to the Chalice of Opulence. Additionally, the following image is shown.
Thus, there is a high likelihood that alongside some returning Destiny 1 exotics like Truth or Khepri’s Sting, there will also be some exclusive Menagerie rewards.
