The Butcher is considered the meanest and sometimes hardest opponent in Diablo 4. The giant demon surprises you in dungeons and slaughters you mercilessly. He has millions of players on his conscience – but one has not suffered a defeat against him yet. Because fortunately, the Butcher is also quite dumb…
What’s up with the Butcher?
- The Butcher, originally “Butcher”, actually comes from Diablo 1 and is a secret enemy in Diablo 4.
- He can appear as an additional boss in dungeons and sometimes drops good legendaries or a disappointing trophy.
- However, you encounter him rather rarely and when you do, you often fall victim. The Butcher alone has already killed more players than other players combined.
This is how a player kills the Butcher every time: On Reddit, a player revealed a trick that he claims allows him to kill the Butcher without fail every time. His secret: a treasure chest.
He uses any chest near the Butcher and lures him over there. The giant demon seems to struggle with the concept of chests, as he stands indecisively in front of it, turning back and forth repeatedly.
The player positions himself on the other side and casually takes the Butcher out while the Horned One appears to not know what to do with the situation:
“Mean AI” leads to significantly easier fights against the meanest opponent
Chests are not the only items that lead to the Butcher’s downfall. He also seems to not understand door frames, columns, and walls. In general, anything that doesn’t bleed is a problem for him.
As another player shows on Reddit, he played “tag” with the Butcher, although he was probably driven more by fear here. The Butcher really couldn’t reach the player, even though he is faster than almost all player characters.
If you are grinding dungeons, you should always remember to use elixirs. This way, you won’t forget it so quickly:
In fact, the tactic works quite well, and I’ve applied it somewhat unintentionally myself. At some point, the Butcher just stood in front of a pillar and didn’t move anymore. According to players on Reddit, this behavior is due to his AI.
Only after a few seconds did I realize that he was not charging an attack but was stuck there. Admittedly… I took advantage of that and took him out. His stupidity is not my problem, though.
And finally, butcher demons are meant to slaughter and are not interior decorators. How are they supposed to know that you can’t chop up stone? You should probably never doubt the Butcher himself:
