In the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online, there is a very special lesson at a university level.
Dr. Corey Olsen is a professor and podcaster who has earned the nickname “Tolkien Professor.” His area of expertise is English literature, specifically J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings. Previously, Olsen was at Washington College, and now he is the founder of “Signum University,” a virtual educational institution.
To celebrate the 125th birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien, Olsen held a lesson in an unusual place: in the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online.
In the new program “Exploring The Lord of The Rings”, Olsen will examine the story chapter by chapter and do so on-site in Middle-earth. The “Standing Stones” developers will create a classroom for the course, a Lore Hall. However, it was not finished yet for the first video.
In each session, Olsen will take a close look at a chapter and then visit the locations mentioned in that chapter. Olsen considers the recreation of Middle-earth through The Lord of the Rings Online to be brilliant.
Then this news must have surely pleased him:
