In the fantasy MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online there are big plans for 2017: Three updates are scheduled. They will bring a new expansion and the High Elves as a playable race to Middle-earth.

Now that the future is secured long-term – the license for The Lord of the Rings has been extended – the team presents its mid-term plans. The producer releases the The Lord of the Rings Online roadmap for 2017.
- First comes Update 20. It will bring a new region called “Wasteland” to LOTRO. Players will be able to travel through a desolate no-man’s land all the way to the slag hills of Mordor. Once crossed, players will face the “Battle at the Black Gate.” Two end dungeons will await players.
- The tenth anniversary also wants to be celebrated. A big party is planned for this. An event is to serve as the centerpiece of the celebration.
- With Update 21, the first expansion in four years will come to The Lord of the Rings Online. We are going to Mordor. Players will experience the fate of the One Ring and then embark on new adventures after the fall of Mordor. New stories will begin. Additionally, with the High Elves, another playable race will be added to The Lord of the Rings Online. Standing Stone will revise the appearance of all races. Mordor is planned for summer.
- Update 22 is set to conclude the year 2017. However, this is still under discussion. In Update 21, new plotlines are to be hinted at, which will then be continued in Update 22 and beyond. The producer assures that they have a lot of content planned for The Lord of the Rings Online in the coming years. There are stories to tell, lands to explore, and deeds to accomplish.
