The developers of the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online have announced what fans can look forward to in 2018. This time, the dwarves of Middle-earth are in focus. Update 23 also raises the level cap to 120.
Meet the Dwarves
What does Update 23 bring? Next up is Update 23, which will lead you to the Lonely Mountain. Where the hobbit Bilbo Baggins traveled with the dwarves to defeat the dragon Smaug. Additionally, you will travel to the Iron Hills and the Grey Mountains, where dwarves – but also a lot of orcs – live. Rumor has it that the giant spider Kankra has retreated somewhere here!

- You will visit new instances, which are divided into different difficulty levels
- The instances can be tackled in groups or alone
- You will learn more about the culture of the dwarves
- There are 80 new quests
- The story surrounding the Black Book of Mordor will continue
- Update 23 does not yet have a release date
After Update 23, the journey continues. Later this year, the developers want to expand the world of Middle-earth to include the regions of North Rhovanion, including Gundabad, the valleys of the Anduin, and other places around Lothlórien. The Morgul Vale, on the other hand, has been postponed to 2019, as they want to focus on the current story for now.
Class Overhauls and New Instances
The classes are being revised. All ten classes in the MMO are set to be revised. However, only with minor adjustments and optimizations. This is intended to allow for faster balancing improvements. You will notice the first adjustments in the coming months.
What else is coming? Seasonal instances are also planned for this year. Two of these instances will become available for the Summer Festival. They include:
- Thrang from the Rift of Nûrz Ghâshu – The instance will be playable as a standalone community instance
- A Perfect Picnic – A new instance related to the Summer Festival, aimed at groups of varying sizes
