Patch 8.3 of WoW faced a lot of criticism. However, the longer you engage with the patch, the more advantages you notice – at least that’s what Cortyn thinks.
The Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth did not fare well in reviews and with many players of World of Warcraft. It’s no wonder, as the patch offers relatively little new content. The two areas Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms are “reheated” content with minor changes, and the end of the Ny’alotha raid with the disappointing cinematic rightly invites criticism.
If you take a step back from the outcry that Battle for Azeroth is completely unsuitable for Twinks, your opinion changes quickly. I have recently pulled out my Demon Hunter again and am currently gearing him for Mythic+, so that he can at least complete a 6 or 7 key in time next week.
He already has some essences at rank 2 or even rank 3, and the Heart of Azeroth is expected to reach level 75 tomorrow to unlock the last essence slot.
For a Twink, into which I invest no more than a few minutes each day – or sometimes do not touch at all – I find that acceptable.
Patch 8.3 is the perfect patch for Twinks
Okay, okay. Before someone angrily types their comment and says that I have no idea, listen to me. The answer is quite simple. Because there is relatively little to do in Patch 8.3 that is considered truly “necessary”, there is much more time for Twinks or alternate characters.
When I log in with my priest, my main character, and check off the absolutely necessary “mandatory program”, it takes me about 45 minutes, perhaps a bit longer on a Saturday and Wednesday due to the new “invasion quest”. This currently includes the daily quests in both areas and the small vision, which I also see as similar to a daily quest in terms of effort.
However, if I am revered with both factions, this effort drops to maybe 5-10 minutes, as I then only need the small visions at most.
Additionally, there are 2-4 times a week the play of a big vision, which has been massively nerfed for healers and tanks, and maybe another evening planned for “Mythic+” dungeons. Then you are done with the “mandatory program”. Sure, this time can still be increased significantly if you raid actively, enjoy playing PvP, or collect achievements. But that is a conscious decision to pursue these contents with more intensity.
It is clear that Blizzard did not initially plan for how little time a single character actually needs. That of the nearly 100 rare enemies, only about 10 have special loot is a bad joke. But it also relieves me enormously from my collecting mania, not having to check at least two dozen rare mobs every day to obtain the last toy. That nearly drove me crazy in Mechagon and Nazjatar.
After a good hour on my priest, I have time for alternate characters and can slowly but surely catch up with my Demon Hunter. Even during questing, there are three essences, so there is at least a solid “starter kit” available to not be completely useless.
Conclusion – Because Patch 8.3 offers little, Twinks are worth it again
In summary, I find Patch 8.3 much more “twink-friendly” than it may appear at first glance. This is mainly because there is relatively little to do per character, making it easy to play multiple characters at an acceptable level.
At least a second character can also be played without a significant time investment and can quickly be made suitable for tougher content. Sure, it won’t have the “optimal” essences and will be just as strong as the main character – but then it wouldn’t be a Twink, right?
Patch 8.3 has relatively little content and also very little that is truly mandatory. This makes the patch and the long drought that awaits us until the release of Shadowlands the perfect time for Twinks. Because if you look at it soberly, Patch 8.3 does not make the game too unfriendly for Twinks.
For the first time in Battle for Azeroth, it feels like I have the time to play Twinks without feeling guilty for my main and gradually gear up the classes. With a few tips, leveling can also go quickly. Who would have thought that such a content-thin patch is exactly what makes me play more than before.
