Loading times annoy many users. Now a developer has explained that they are even too short for a certain feature. MeinMMO explains what this is about.
Every user who plays on PC or on the older console generation (PS4/Xbox One) is probably familiar with loading times. You stare at the screen for a few minutes and wait for the console or PC to load the data.
However, long loading times are a thing of the past on the Xbox Series X and PS5. Developers had already raved beforehand about how fast the PS5’s SSD is supposed to be. Meanwhile, you can also expand the PS5’s storage with an SSD.
But some developers apparently find the loading times on the PS5 too short now. So short that some developers have intentionally extended the loading times.
Too short loading times leave no tips in the loading screen
What happened now? The developers of Horizon: Forbidden West have explained in a conversation with the magazine Engadgement that while the short loading times are great, a popular feature no longer works. How good Horizon: Forbidden West really is can be read on MeinMMO.
Until now, tips and tricks could always be displayed on the loading screen. This allowed players to prepare for certain opponents or display key combinations. According to internal tests, Guerrilla states that the tips are often liked and used by many users, which is why they wanted to keep them in.
But this is exactly where the PS5 ruined the developers’ plans. The PS5’s loading times are around 5 seconds, leaving no time for these tooltips. And according to developers, it happens so quickly that players can no longer read hints.
This is what the developers did: In the conversation, the developers from Guerrilla explained that they simply extended the loading times:
We had to implement a very simple feature that keeps the loading screen up long enough for players to read at least one hint while it loads.

Do I now have to accept longer loading times with the PS5? Before there are people complaining about the extended loading times: The developers explained at the same time that you can also disable the “feature.”
You can either go to the menu and disable the pause option in the menu or simply press the X button on the loading screen and it continues.
But if you ignore the tips, then you can’t complain if you die more often than you actually wanted.
