Fans are unlikely to be surprised by the story
What is the series about? As the name suggests, it is about the hunt for Horus Lupercal – the greatest traitor to the Imperium of Man. One aspect could be problematic: Every fan already knows how it will end. So here is a spoiler warning.
The traitor Horus Lupercal is not killed at this point: he is, after all, the main reason for the Horus Heresy. Once you realize this, the name of the series seems more amusing than exciting. Fans also allow themselves the occasional joke about it:
- Under a Reddit post on r/Warhammer40k, PVA_Blood comments: “Oh boy, I hope they manage to kill Lupercal. I have a bad feeling about that guy.”
- AFrenchLondoner agrees and writes: “He sounds like a real threat.”
These comments started circulating under the first trailer on YouTube:
- kabriii speculates, like the master detective that he is: “Hmm … I have a feeling that Horus won’t die in this series.”
- BiomechanicalBrick asks: “And which horse told you this rumor” – in the original English comment, the words for horse and rumor sound similar to Horus Heresy.
Does this have to be a problem? It can be, but it doesn’t have to. Anyone just looking for cool action with the Imperium’s titans or wanting to see some of their favorite characters in motion can still have fun with Kill Lupercal.
To watch the series, you need a Warhammer+ subscription. It costs €6.49 per month and offers access to a variety of animated short films, exclusive shows, and more. You won’t find the series on other streaming services. The target audience is clearly hardcore fans, who are already well-versed in the lore. The series may therefore struggle to attract new viewers.
