In Star Citizen, a “Legatus Package” is regularly sold – with almost all digital ships available in the MMO. However, this massive SF epic still has no release date. The latest package is once again breaking price barriers – $40,000, more than €35,000, is what CIG wants for the package. The package was created at the request of fans, it was said in 2018.
What is included in the package?
- The exact contents of “Legatus 2951” are currently unclear, but based on previous offers, it can be strongly suspected that almost all ships and upgrades available in Star Citizen will be included.
- The predecessor package; Legatus Pack 2950 (a mere $36,500), included more than 150 ships along with all sorts of upgrades, items, and special services.
- To purchase the package, one must first be a member of the “Chairman’s Club”. To join, one must have spent $1,000 in-game.

How has the price of this package developed over time?
The price has steadily increased:
- Star Citizen offered a “Completionist” package before the first Legatus package, with every ship in the game, for $15,000.
- In May 2018, the package with 117 ships and 163 other contents still cost $27,000
- In December 2019, the “2949” Legatus Pack was priced at $35,000
- The Legatus Pack 2950 then cost $36,500
- The new package will cost $40,000
What does Star Citizen say about the package? When CIG first offered this package in 2018, they explained in an interview what it was all about:
The new package was offered at the request of the hardcore part of the community. The package was not created in a vacuum, but as a response to a demand.
They have “very passionate supporters” who do not see Star Citizen as a typical game, but perceive it as a dream project that they want to see come to fruition.
How is this being discussed? The general attitude on the Star Citizen Reddit ranges from biting cynicism to shoulder shrugging. There are statements such as:
- “For that money, you could employ a developer for 6 to 8 months and feed them. Please think of the developers.”
- “Hey, thanks. I didn’t even see that. I bought one for myself, my wife, and my dog!”
- A user quotes a popular meme: “Shut up and take my … Wait, how much is that going to cost?!”
- “There’s no ship included, it’s just the image of a ship pack!” – the comment refers to a current controversy that Star Citizen does not give away ships as a “giveaway,” but only wallpapers of ships.
Generally, the community sees these packages rather casually. The consensus is: you can only fly one ship anyway, and it is not necessary to acquire every ship in the game.
What’s the status of a release date? Bad. After Star Citizen repeatedly announced release dates that were then retracted, no official dates are being given anymore. A roadmap indicating when new content is supposed to be released currently extends until the end of 2023, but a release is not in sight.
At the moment, Star Citizen is playable in a test version, which is expanded approximately every 3 months with a new update.
