Veterans of Destiny know the Hand Cannon “The Last Word.” They would love to play it again in Destiny 2. It is not available there yet. But surprisingly, Fortnite has now brought the Hand Cannon into play.
This is “The Last Word”: In Destiny 1 there were many weapons that Guardians speak of with love. The most powerful weapon was certainly “Gjallarhorn,” but the weapon with the most style is for many “The Last Word.”
In the science fiction universe of Destiny, with laser beams, homing rockets, and giant aliens, “The Last Word” turned Guardians into cowboys who maintained law and order with a six-shooter at their hip.
The Last Word is an exotic Hand Cannon, loved primarily by PvP fans. Thanks to a perk, The Last Word was particularly accurate when fired from the hip.
The special thing about the weapon was already the shooting animation. The shooter uses a technique known from the Wild West. The shooter holds one hand over the hammer to increase the firing speed. This technique is known as fanning.
Even the reload animation was well done, and just drawing the weapon looked spectacular: “The Last Word” was full of style.
Moreover, “The Last Word” is surrounded by a fantastic story. For this weapon belongs to Shin Malphur, who dueled with Dredgen Yor, the owner of “The Thorn.”
The Last Word became a cult weapon, which was then modeled by fans (title image) or built out of LEGO. There is even a cocktail named after “The Last Word.”
Fans demand return in Destiny 2: Even though Destiny 2 has brought many exotic weapons from Destiny 1 back, “The Last Word” is still missing from today’s Guardians’ arsenal.
However, there are rumors that the weapon could return with the next DLC “The Black Armory.” Perhaps we’ll find out this in the coming days: A video documentary is being released.
Fortnite brings the weapon back to PvE
This is how “The Last Word” works in Fortnite: The Last Word came to the Event Shop of Fortnite: Save the World about two weeks ago, meaning in the PVE part of the game.
The weapon could be purchased there for 1680 Gold for one week. Gold is an in-game currency that you earn through missions and is a bit tedious to grind. Fortnite Gold cannot be purchased with real money.
This is how “The Last Word” works in Fortnite: The weapon is not only randomly named after Destiny, but it is a clear homage. “The Last Word” in Fortnite can be used in two ways:
- When aiming, it becomes more precise and shoots slowly
- When firing from the hip, it shoots faster but less accurately – here too, there is the animation with fanning
Even in Fortnite, “The Last Word” has already found some fans. Some recommend a “Crit-Build” (via reddit) with the gunslinger Calamity to achieve huge damage numbers with headshots.
However, whether “The Last Word” will ever reach the cult status in Fortnite as it did in Destiny is questionable. After all, the weapon was only available for a short time and “Fortnite: Save the World” currently has a rather limited community.
But perhaps Guardians in Destiny 2 can soon fire stylishly from the hip again, just like they did in “more romantic times.”
