The PC version of “The Last of Us Part 1” is receiving a lot of criticism on Steam for its technical implementation. Now the developers have spoken out.
The Last of Us is arguably one of the most popular games of all time. On the review platform Metacritic, the original version of the game on PS3 holds an impressive score of 95. The same score was achieved by the PS4 remaster in 2014.
In June 2022, the big announcement followed. The successful hit is set to receive a remake on PS5 and – it gets even better – will also be released for PC. A Steam release was on the horizon. This is what PC gamers have been waiting for.
On March 28, 2023, it finally happened, the PC version was released. But instead of celebrating, the players are disappointed. The reviews are mostly negative one day after the official Steam release – only 33% of over 6,800 player reviews rate the PC port positively (via Steam)
The game has numerous technical issues – shaders load very slowly, the performance is poor and unstable. Problems that were also confirmed by GameStar Tech.
Naughty Dog Responds to the Criticism
How do the developers respond? On Twitter, Naughty Dog, the studio behind The Last of Us, has addressed the criticism of their game. They stated that they have taken the players’ concerns into account and are now investigating the reported issues.
On the studio’s website, the developers have also compiled a list of known issues (via feedback.naughtydog.com). The following errors are listed:
- Loading shaders takes longer than expected
- Performance and stability are affected while shaders are loading in the background
- Older graphics drivers lead to instability and/or graphical issues
- The game may not start even if the minimum system requirements are met.
- A possible memory leak
In conclusion, the studio asks that you fill out a ticket on the support page if you encounter an error that is not listed in the recent patch notes.
Unlike the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1, the first season of the TV series was well received by many fans and received a lot of praise – even from MeinMMO Editor-in-Chief Leya Jankowski.
