Also The Last of Us: Part 2 is getting a multiplayer mode. It will likely be dark and might separate you from some Facebook friends …
The E3 2018 continuously provides new information about the games of the upcoming years. Fans of good entertainment on the PlayStation 4, in particular, should be excited about The Last of Us: Part 2, which was presented with a spectacular trailer. In an interview with GameSpot, co-director Anthony Newman revealed, “Factions is back” – the multiplayer mode is returning!
What has been said about the multiplayer? They do not want to go into concrete details yet or “what forms it will take.” However, the announcement that the multiplayer will feature “Factions is back” already provides some hints about how the multiplayer experience will unfold.
What was the “Factions multiplayer”? In the multiplayer mode of The Last of Us, players battled each other in a 4vs4 manner, either fighting for the Fireflies or the Hunters. Just like in the main game, players could decide freely: Brutal action or tactical stealth gameplay? This could often change in a matter of seconds. Each team had (like in many other shooters) tickets regulating the respawn. If the tickets were exhausted and the last member of your team was killed, the opposing team won.
The Facebook connection was the highlight: The gaming experience was particularly intense when you granted the game access to your Facebook profile. After each round, there was a bit of “story” about your camp. If you played poorly, the seized medical supplies might only be enough to save two out of three people. These NPCs carried the names of people from your Facebook friends list. It was dark and oppressive – just like the atmosphere in the main game.
Those who played the multiplayer in Part 1 can look forward to experiencing that intensity again. The mode should certainly be enough to keep players engaged with The Last of Us: Part 2 for a while after the main story.
Are you excited for The Last of Us: Part 2 and will you be playing the multiplayer mode? Or did you leave it out in the first game?
