A dream come true for zombie fans is coming. The PS3 masterpiece “The Last of Us” is getting its own TV series.
If you ask PlayStation fans which game has moved them the most and was perhaps the most intense experience, one game keeps coming up: The Last of Us. Although Part 2 is currently in development and players’ anticipation has been building for months, there is now another reason to be excited, because:
“The Last of Us” is getting its own series.
What will the series be about? As revealed on the Hollywood Reporter website, the series will primarily focus on the storyline of the first part of “The Last of Us”. Whether it will stick closely to the source material or make some deviations in order to change the story and create new surprises has not been disclosed.
In any case, we can probably expect to meet Ellie and Joel in some form – and also the resistance movement known as the Fireflies. HBO promoted it on Twitter with their logo.
When will the series be released? There is no release date for the show yet. Although the Twitter account of HBO talks about “soon”, the filming and production will probably take a while. So we should not expect it before 2021. But maybe we will get a specific date in the coming months.
Anyone wanting to see an MMORPG series before the release could check out “Mythic Quest”.
Who is in charge of the series? The project is being led by Craig Mazin, who many will remember as the screenwriter of the series “Chernobyl”. He is working together with Neil Druckmann, the Creative Director behind The Last of Us on the PlayStation 3.
More adaptations are planned: Although there are no details yet, it has been suggested that more adaptations from the video game sector are planned. So we can expect that in the coming years, more games will be turned into series. In addition to Diablo 4, Blizzard is working on a series for Diablo.

Cortyn says: The Last of Us was one of my first truly dramatic games on the PS3, after primarily playing Final Fantasy or Bayonetta before. I have rarely perceived a game as intensely and oppressively as The Last of Us. It was the perfect mix of action, quiet moments, and great characters. While the whole “zombie hype” following Left 4 Dead left me rather cold, The Last of Us fully captured me with its infected.
Whether it will be a success remains to be seen. After all, the Witcher series has already shown how fantastic a video game adaptation can be when done right. This raises my hopes that the adaptation of The Last of Us can be a similar success.
Are you excited about the series adaptation of The Last of Us? Or would you rather have seen the video game series left as it is? Which game would you like to see as a series?
