Call of Duty: Modern Warfare announced a lot of content and wants to keep its players engaged for a longer period. However, the last major update with new content was almost a month ago. When will the next update come?
Every year, as the Christmas season approaches, a new Call of Duty is released. Currently, soldiers are getting their hands dirty in a reboot of the popular “Modern Warfare” series. But there has been little new in recent weeks.
Although there have already been some announcements from officials that an update is on the way, a blog post from Activision even promised an update on January 22. However, the post was deleted.
So when can we finally expect the next major update?

What was in the blog post? The post provided us with some information about the schedule for this week in Modern Warfare:
- Double XP ends on January 21 at 7 PM our time
- New bundles from CDL teams in the shop
- Aniyah Palace (Ground War) returns on January 22
- The crossbow will also come to the game on January 22
- To obtain the crossbow, you need to complete some Marksman missions
This week was planned to introduce a new weapon and bring back a map that has been experiencing matchmaking issues (according to YouTuber JGOD in the update video).
Why was it deleted? This can only be speculated. There may be issues with the crossbow or something is not right on the revamped map “Aniyah Palace”.
It is also possible that the post was meant to be released tomorrow and that the instruction was miscommunicated. However, the note about the end of the double XP event today (January 21) speaks against that.
What happens next? There is still a chance that an update will come tomorrow, but that is by no means certain.
However, the CDL is supposed to start on the weekend. A pro league with mostly US teams that compete against each other regularly. Some pros are becoming impatient, as certain issues should be resolved before the start of the league, such as the slide cancel.
Rhys Price, one of the players from the “London Royal Ravens,” has reportedly been told to expect a patch for the slide cancel on January 22. Whether this is still current is unknown. In addition to the cancel move, several other issues should be addressed, such as the annoying player collision or deadly bushes.
Modern Warfare is apparently behind schedule
What has been postponed so far? According to a developer on Twitter, a larger update was supposed to come last week.
Instead of a larger update, season 1 was extended and probably pushed back the entire team’s timeline.
Is there a compensation? Modern Warfare is being quite generous with the extension of the season. During the entire period from February 4 to 11, three XP modifiers will run:
- Double XP
- Double weapon XP
- Double battle pass XP
This gives all players another chance to level up the rest of the battle pass. Those who have already completed it can level up another weapon from the vast arsenal of MW, perhaps even the crossbow.
