Rust is an extremely popular survival MMO on Steam. The game was originally supposed to get a port for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2020. However, this has now been postponed to next year.
What kind of game is this? Rust is a brutal survival game in which players start completely naked and must survive in a foreign world with nothing but a rock. With a lot of PvP, it mainly appeals to players who enjoy the harshness of the genre.
Although this is not for everyone, Rust can claim the title of the largest survival game on Steam. According to steamcharts , it ranks 9th among the games with the most players, with over 63,000 players (as of December 8).
With this number, Rust currently even surpasses the competitor ARK: Survival Evolved. It still has more players at peak times. Rust is among the best survival games for PC, PS4, and Xbox One here on MeinMMO.
When is Rust coming to consoles? In a statement on the official website, the developers announced that the console versions will not be released until 2021.
In the meantime, Rust has already received an ESRB rating for PS4 and Xbox One. An announcement for the release should therefore not take much longer.
What about PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X? The statement mentions “console versions” without specifically naming the platforms. We have known since 2019 that Rust is set to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Originally, this was planned for 2020.
No mention has been made of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Whether there will be direct versions for next-gen is uncertain. However, both consoles offer backward compatibility, so you will likely be able to play Rust on both PS5 and XSX.
Is Rust worth it on PS4 and Xbox One?
The entry into Rust is tough and can quickly deter new players. Staying true to its survival genre, survival here is really not easy, and it may take a while before you reach a point where it becomes “comfortable.” Nevertheless, Rust is booming and has already been among the top 10 on Steam since August 2020.
The open world and the many possibilities invite many players to expand and express themselves, unless they are being robbed or attacked.
