The biggest Twitch streamer in Germany founded his own football club in 2022 and is now celebrating the successful first season of his team.
Who is it about? Elias Nerlich, better known as “EliasN97”, is a 25-year-old German streamer. On Twitch, Nerlich has 1.4 million followers and took over from MontanaBlack as the largest German streamer.
After a serious leg injury, Nerlich came across the football simulation FIFA 17 and was signed into the e-sports team of Hertha BSC in 2018. Subsequently, the now 25-year-old was also active on YouTube and from 2020 onwards on Twitch.
On YouTube, he built his following mainly with videos about FIFA. On Twitch, he shows mainly the football simulation, as well as the “Just Chatting” category, and occasionally games like Fortnite and Among Us.
Streamer founds football club in Berlin
What kind of team is this? In the year 2022, Nerlich founded his own football club named Delay Sports Berlin.
- The first team of Delay Sports Berlin plays in the Kreisliga C
- Shortly after the founding of the club, Delay Sports won friendly matches against a B and A league team.
- On Instagram, the club has a strong 459,000 followers and benefits from the streamer’s reach. Hertha BSC Berlin comparatively has “only” 273,000 followers (as of March 13, 2023).
What success is Nerlich celebrating? The first team of Delay Sports Berlin currently holds first place in the Kreisliga C. According to Nerlich, promotion to Kreisliga B is assured – and this in the first season after the club’s founding.
Nerlich himself writes on Twitter: “First promotion in the 1st season, 18 games, 18 wins”.
Subsequently, the 25-year-old thanks the fans for their support: “Thank you to each and every one who supports the project. You are the best! We hope we can somehow give back to you. Over 2,000 spectators were there today, setting the record for a Kreisliga match.”
Besides Elias Nerlich, Knossi is among the biggest streamers in Germany and it all started at the witness stand of Barbara Salesch:
How does Delay Sports currently stand? Already after the first half of the season, Delay Sports Berlin stood in 1st place in the table and showed a goal difference of 73:3 after 12 games (via Fußball.de).
But Nerlich’s team cannot rest on their success, as the season is not over and there are still several match days to go. FC Grunewald is just 8 points behind the streamer’s team with 43 points after 17 games and could theoretically still take the first place.
For Nerlich, this is just a hobby project. He is not financially reliant on the success of the club:
